Hi, have any of you used one of these for painting fences? I have foolishly decided that my fences need re painting and it's a long labourious job with a brush lol. I've been at it now for nearly 2 weeks (ok so some of the days rain stopped play!) and I have had to mask off the concrete posts and gravel boards as well as painting them (glutton for punishment!) I'm beginning to lose the will to live now. I'm not working this weekend so weather permitting I intend to try to break the back of it. Just not sure if I should buy one of these or plough on with my brush.

I have found better results with the brush.  Have recently been working on both sides of 30 panels, have still got 3 whole ones and three sides that are temporarily inaccessible to do.

My neighbour painted the fence between himself and my house and the overspray ended up on my house, path, shrubs and in my pond. He was really careful but the breeze takes the spray everywhere. When he painted the fence this year he took the panels down to ensure the spray didn't affect my house and garden.

Hand paint always harder work but better finish.

Thanks for the replies. I thought the brush would give the better result. It's such a labourious job though. Got work this morning then the rest of the day and tomorrow to attack the fencing!  I keep telling myself it will all look so much better when I've finally finished it. It's probably the worst d i y job I tackle. When decorating inside you have the mess of stripping wallpaper and painting woodwork but once the paper starts going up it's done in no time. Painting fencing is soul destroying! You spend hours painting it and then you start again with the second and third coats.

Actually I love the job find it very therapeutic and satisfying.

I do have to admit I paint the gravel boards too and the edges of the posts, by the slots.

I have taken over the fence from the neighbour as the old neighbour was such a bodger and new people happy for me to take over the responsibility which means a proper fence now.

This was after Inka got through a very rotten panel (I had not realised, as he had painted it up nicely), because he was too tight to use gravel boardes.  He had got spray pain in red all over those posts.

I find the job is slightly easier if you attach the brush to one of those poles that you use to extend paint rollers. It still takes forever but no bending over and aching back. Duct tape should fix it ok.
