DD burst into my room at 6.16am in tears as she has got a D in her AS history.
She adores history and can't understand it, it also means she can't get a B for University next year.
She can see that she got a B in one question and a D in the other, so can't understand how that equates to a D ?
Can we see her paper to see where she went so wrong ?
Can we get a re-mark ?
TIA
Not a college tutor but someone with a similar story. I did my AS Language and Literature papers (having found it extremely easy at GCSE put in less work than I should of done), anyway I got an E in both of my exams. Asked for my exam papers back, sat down with my teachers and addressed what I had done wrong and resat them. Got 2 A's and got in to my top pick University and have also just graduated with a 2:1 Bachelors degree with Honours in both Language and Literature. I'm also on a Masters degree course I'm both my subjects for next year.
It may seem like the end of the world now but trust me it isn't :)
Can I ask how long it took to get your paper back, re-sit and get your results ?
It's just that she has to apply to University soon and she can't apply to where she wants to go with that result !
The frustrating thing is that she got a B in the two other subjects that she doesn't care about.
Congrats by the way !!
Hmm I remember it taking a few weeks to get my paper back so I would get the form ASAP and in my day (oh I sound like my mother lol!) we resat in January and results were out in March.
My first port of call would be to speak to her tutor (both history and the one which will be helping her through the UCAS process). I'm not sure on how history is weighted these days but when I did my A level in history exams were weighted different, for example one exam would be 40% and one would be 60% so maybe that's how her grade was dragged down?
I'll let her in to a secret of mine... I resat the Vietnam section of my History As Level roughly 4 times because I kept getting a D and it also dragged my overall B down... I got my C and my full A2 grade is a B.

If she has had consecutively good grades you could appeal and in the mean time send a letter of request to her preferred university along with a statement from her tutor stating this in the hopes they may hold her place until the matter is resolved. As mentioned before, if she does resit it will happen in january with results back end of feb, beginning of march. If she doesn't want to resit, she will have to go through clearing and hope for places to be left unfilled or attend a different university to her preferred choice. If she is unlucky and misses out she could defer and take a year out, go travelling and just do the resit.
Whatever she decides, she will need to be proactive and really get her skates on. Good luck.

It is possible to ask for a remark if it is a borderline result. If it is to this far below expected grade or desired that may not be enough even if it falls in her favour.
I would start off by speaking to her history teacher if they are available they will know the best way forward.
My son got his art gcse remarked and went from a d to c which was what he was after
It turns out she got a B in one question and an E in the other, which becomes a D. She has never had less than a B in history so she is devastated.
We are going to order a copy of her paper to see where she went wrong.
She says that she needs a B to get in university so it looks like a re-sit next year.
The fact that she got B's in two other subjects doesn't seem to matter as she got an E in her beloved history !!
Thanks for your replies.

I was watching a piece on the news about A level results and it was highlighted that many Uni's are fighting for students instead of students fighting for places. Apparently Unis have been able to have more places this year and this is coupled with less children becoming 18. It may be possible that your daughters chosen Uni may accept her on her given results (may help if her teacher is able to write something to say that your daughter normally gets B's on assignments). Clearing may be the next place to approach to see if she will be accepted elsewhere.
Hi, my daughter got her A level results yesterday. She was absolutely gutted that she got a D in History and was convinced she wouldn't get into her first choice university. After a very stressful day she received an email at 8.45pm last night saying congratulations your in. She starts History at Lincoln university in 3 weeks so there's hope for your daughter too :)

Just a thought but could you find out if the threshold has been raised this year? This is sometimes done so that it doesn't look like everyone sailed through the paper. There was talk of lowering the KS2 maths threshold marker this year as the calculator paper was scrapped and replaced by another non calculator paper. I know that thresholds have been lowered if the marks appear lower than expected and vice versa.
P.s congratulations to your daughter Rottieseth
