Hello,

A bit early I know but I am looking for a rental cottage in Cornwall for myself, fiancé and Golden Retriever for a week or long weekend next summer.

Can anyone recommend some good places/companies?

I have found so much on Google I'm a bit baffled and would prefer a recommendation!!

Thanks :)

I have a friend that has little holiday Chalets that are dog friendly, she's in Cornwall. Not sure how much she charges but might be worth a look :D

My daughter works for a holiday company who have dog friendly villas in Trewiddle, Nr St Austel. We have just come back from there.

They are fabulous, but not cheap! www.naturalretreats.com

I would love to do this but fear no one will allow 4 dogs with hubby and me or 5 with us and my sister and her hubby... :( we would love to go together to wales.

'Landmark Trust' properties are always as described & usually have some kind of unique element to them, they are all over UK so worth checking out to see if one of those, where you can have a dog, suites your other needs.

We have 5 dogs, and recently saw this place in Wales advertised.  No limit to dogs, and looks really good.  Each rental has its own enclosed paddock

Website:  http://www.brechfaforestbarns.com/

Facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/brechfaforestbarns

And their trip advisor reviews:  http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/VacationRentalReview-g1472488-d2694907-Brechfa_Forest_Barns-Brechfa_Carmarthenshire_Wales.html

I have no connection to this place, and have not stayed there, but we are definitely thinking about it.

>but fear no one will allow 4 dogs with hubby and me

You would be surprised.  Before I bought the static I could only find places with a 1 dog policy.  And it had to be a small dog!

I sent an email to the Torquay Tourist board and they found me a place to take 2 Bearded Collies, 1 mongrel, and 1 Toy Poodle.  I'm sure that there must be other Tourist Boards that are helpful.

Natural Retreats also have villas in Wales, Lodges in North Yorkshire, and Scotland.

They don't put a limit on the number of dogs.

We stayed at the King Harry ferry cottage near Falmouth a few years ago which was very nice. Garden if I recall not quite as dogproof as one could wish, but sadly this nearly always seems to be the case wherever we hire a dog cottage! Bit open plan to then have a 'no dogs on sofas' rule but we'd taken our own sofa covers and the weather was nice so we didn't have a muddy dog problem. And they let us take 4 dogs, though in the end we only had 3 as we'd lost Henry then. Also comes with use of a small motor boat!

Living here on the N.Cornwall coast, I should set up a business where we move out, and let our rental property!!!   If I could.    It's generally not cheap around here, but the N.Cornwall coast is magnificent for scenery, and Bude is a very 'dog friendly' town but not necessarily for accommodation.    Wales has more accommodation potentially and appears to be far better for dog-friendly accommodation and I think may well be more reasonably priced.

Don't know anywhere in Cornwall but as someone mentioned Wales I had to throw Little Dumpledale into the mix!

They're geared very much towards dogs, leaflets for good dog walks locally in the properties, fully fenced in gardens. I stayed there with my 3 this year but there's no limit on the no of dogs. We were on the beaches by 7 every morning, we had the best time. I really would recommend them.

Hi,
We have just booked through this company:

http://www.cornishcottageholidays.co.uk/

There seemed to be a number that will take more than one dog. It's easy to search too as it says up front how many dogs are allowed, not buried somewhere in the description! Some charge but there are some that take dogs free of charge.

Hope that helps.

Definitely worth lookingat for a lot of people, but from a quick scroll through, most are 1-2 dogs, and a very rare 3.  We have 5 :(

I really like the look of several of the recommendations on here though and am making a file of options!  So thanks everyone.

This is owned by friends of mine with whippets.  One bedroom, good size property.  Again I haven't stayed yet, but many other of our friends have and love it.

They will take more than 2 dogs (though I know in the OP's case they only have 1), you just have to contact them before booking to confirm.

wow! thanks guys....i think we might consider around half term next feb - possibly the week before or after in the hopes of not many people about. my breed can get very 'pack' minded sometimes so would prefer somewhere quiet. love the idea of the enclosed paddocks. will save this post.

Our pet friendly holiday let in the NE allows unlimited number of dogs, all free of charge. Own huge paddock surrounding the accommodation and 6ft panel fencing all the way round. Fully booked this year and one third full for next year now. www.paddocklodge.com

Sadly most of these are way out of my budget as a single person with 2 dogs who is desperate for some respite time as a carer.
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 15.08.14 07:31 UTC
I think a lot of people with holiday cottages are really missing a trick on the dog front - every place I know that is ideally set up for dogs and allows unlimited, or at least a good number of, dogs seems to be booked out constantly, way in advance, and any cancellations are soon filled. Wish more of them would catch on to it!

I font think, if i were in the same position as the guys you have in mind, that I would let anything to strangers with dog, its not just the fact the fog might tear everything up, there's no way I could know if it would worry local livestock, bite or harass local dogs or people, bark to nuisance levels or just generally cause local problems specific to the dog  ... I think those who do let to strange dogs are taking a lot of chances, is is it worth their risk? I mean you have a BC, a breed notorious for its biddable character, not all dogs are like that!

I mean you have a BC,

Ya mean you wrote a load of crap HP, its a lassie collie type.

Most that takes pets charge a fee of around £25 per dog, which is then used for insurance.
Thankfully a lot do not think like you hethspaw as i go every year with my gang and have a lovely time supervising my dogs, just the same way i would if i had children.

I'm really glad they don't think like me in the hypothetical situation of me owning rural, rental property.

I go to places with my own dog, if they/those all thought like me, I would not be able to take my dogs there, but, they don't, so I can.

I've been talking to a letting agent in Cornwall as I'm thinking of buying a holiday let there. According to him, they have less damage caused by visiting dogs, than from visiting children, as the owners are so careful! Hope he's right (& that I can make the figures work to make it a sensible purchase!)....

I have to say if it was me doing the letting I'd rather have dogs than kids!  (sorry those of you who have responsible children).

went to a caravan site up near Sandringham some years ago.....................
Dogs welcome...............no children under 18 :-D :-D

>I'd rather have dogs than kids!

It's not only you.

The dog friendly bungalow owner wasn't in the least put out by my 2 Bearded Collies, medium sized crossbreed and a Toy Poodle.  Indeed, he came to watch how obedient they were, as he'd never seen obedience trained dogs.

He told me that he had a couple who went every year with their 2 parrots!  I asked why no children.  He maintained that every parent he had hire the bungalow, seemed to keep the kids under the beds.  Seeing my puzzled look he told me that was where he found all the ground in sticky sweets stuck to his carpets.

He had banned kids for years.
