Topic Dog Boards / Health / Body tremors in epileptic dog

My big man has epilepsy ( asked advice here before) and in the last 2 years since the first fit he has only had 4 since..which is good..
MRI clear etc..on 60mg epiphen twice daily and quite a low dose of libromide ( potassium bromide).

Just a little back history..he has always had a very slight paw tremor in a back foot...only showing when he was on his back and holding up said foot....so I thought nothing of it.

However...since his first fit I notice it has been getting worse. From just the foot...to the whole rear leg...and then the front and now it seems his whole body.
Strange thing is it only happens when he is sitting ,standing  and lying on his side.
First time I asked the vet she dismissed it in the office as him being nervous...so when we got home I took a video of him in the home where he wasn't anxious and it was just as bad.
If he concentrates for very brief moments it does stop..but comes back again after a minute or so..
The vet had upped his dose of potassium bromide ..and reduced it again as it made the tremor stronger...
She has told me she thinks he could well be a very unstable epileptic and if not for the meds could very well be fitting quite a lot...

Anyone with ideas....vet says herself the meds he's on are doing the job of stopping the fits and upping the meds would have an adverse effect on his day to day function ..which is where I draw the line.
My last epi dog never had body shakes like this..
I can upload vids to YouTube if anyone wants to see what I mean by body shakes..

Cheers
Julie

Hi Julie,

Sorry to hear about your boy, I have never had an epileptic dog myself.
Have you tried searching through past posts and putting in the keyword "epilepsy "  as I am sure it is a topic that has come up previously.

Hope someone with experience comes along and can help point you in the right direction for more help or a support group.
Good luck with your boy and do let us know how you get on as the information would be very useful to others who find themselves in the same situation.
Hugs to your boy and hope you can get his condition stabilised
