Does anybody own their own ultrasound scanner for determining whether a bitch is in whelp? If so, please could you tell me the model you have. A few of us are looking to buy one and wondered if anyone has any recommendations or otherwise? TIA

We currently have a Siemens Acuson P300
We also have a Fukuda Denshi FFsonic UF-4100 black and white which is just as good for pregnancy scanning.

If you are looking to use your machine JUST for pregnancy scanning the machine its self is secondary ;the transducer/probe is more important.Ideally you would need a convex probe that could scan to 3.5 - 5.5MHZ .Many of the cheaper Chinese models available on ebay would do the job .Having seen a couple of these they are actually very good machines and at less than a twenth of the price of Siemens,HP,GE,Sonosite,Phillips.Logiq ,they are ideal for simple pregnancy scanning

I can recommend Thames Medical.  http://www.thamesmedical.com/
Mike Brampton makes dopplers for midwives throughout the UK but also makes ultra sound (not pictures) scanners specifically for dogs - these are not pig dopplers that are sometimes rented out and work on a different frequency and so don't work well for dogs!

There is some controversy about side effects of picture dopplers when used regularly - and sound dopplers use only 10% of the comparable ultra sound waves.

I had one for 10 years when I was breeding and could detect pregnancy from 21 days and could be accurate with numbers from 26 days.  A brilliant and cost effective bit of kit for those with regular litters.  :)

Me being thick here, how do you detect pregnancy with no picture?

That's great, thanks for your help :)

Ok so we've narrowed it down (I think!)

The first is a 3D scanner

The second is a pregnancy detector, maybe similar to the doplers mentioned?

Please could you tell me if either are suitable and if so which one's best?

Thank you!

The scanner is suitable ..... but you will be hit with import duty etc on items from outside the EU

Ooo thank you, I didn't think of that! Is the other one not good?
