Hypothetical Question - After a parvo outbreak how long would you stay away from shows? KC declaration is  ''I/We also undertake to abide by the Regulations of this Show and not n to bring to the Show any dog which has contracted or been knowingly exposed to any infectious or contagious disease during the 21 days prior to the Show, or
which is suffering from a visible condition which adversely affects its health or welfare''

when my girl had it, we were told not to take her out until around a month (think they said 21-29 days) after her poop went back to normal. After that time I had her poop tested to make sure she wasn't still shedding the virus before we went back to training/shows as I didn't want her to be passing it on.

Thanks Jo, I looked on the KC site expecting to see some advice but there was nothing. Would have thought that would be something they would be keen to get right :(

yeah, they just have the standard declaration on the entries form.

You don't have to have the fecal testing done but I wanted to get as I know a few people who if one of there pups happened to come down with it they would be blaming us straight away. So having the test results saying she wasn't shedding it made me feel better. (one of the people tried to blaim me for her unvaccinated rabbit getting mixi months after a gave her a hutch for free after my vaccinated rabbit was killed by a dog, they had to be reminded of that fact)

I don't have a problem but was discussing with my mentor and she said 6 months out of showing was standard practice after an outbreak (or used to be standard practice) - but could only find reference in the standard declaration of 21 days

I suppose they said that as a dog that has had parvo will shed the virus in its poop for a period of time after it gets better, so the 6 no the would be a better safe than sorry thing especially if not testing or don't know about the test (I didn't know they could test if they were shedding it u till the vet said about it) allthough I was told by the vet that dogs can shed it for years after sometimes or even stop shedding it and then start again. All though I have no idea if there right about that or not.
