Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / peeing up humans leg?

MY 5 OLD male dog has now twice peeded up peoples  leg First time was mine while standing chatting then now to my friend who had him on the lead and she too was chatting. Both times at dog shows Is there a reason why he has just starting doing this?

Is there a reason why he has just starting doing this?

Yes, it's called 'Great Sense of Humor's Syndrom'.

Might be nerves - sounds odd I know but marking can be a dog's way of trying to look confident and a dog show can be a daunting place for some dogs (and they might not necessarily show it obviously).

Some males do have this naughty habit, odd he's just started at 5 though! I am 99% all for reward based training, but when my 14 month boy did that to me (he'd previously done it up the steward's leg before I noticed at a previous show) I got down to his level and gave him what for with a good telling off and he never did it again to me or anyone else! :-p

LOL, little devil.  My boy pee'd on my friend at an all breed outdoor dog show.  He was 9 months old and just a few weeks into leg lifting but we were there for his CGN evaluation and as you can imagine, good neighbour's don't pee on your friend's leg.  My friend was the agility judge but I thought, "What if she tells the CGN evaluator?"  Well, she just laughed and told me not to worry.  For one, he missed.  For two she said he wouldn't be the last dog to try at the show and her theory was there was dog pee all over the grass and either he was confused or it splashed on her, making her seem peeable.  Was yours an outdoor show too?  Bet it could be her theory for your boy too.

My pup now 11 months has peed up someones leg 3 times as far as i know. i caught him at it once and shouted ahah at him and he stopped, but the others I did not notice till he had peed.
He also marks a lot when we are out but as I have always had bitches I do not know if this is normal. He does try to hump  quite a bit. i wondered if he is going to be a sex pest whether I should have him neutered sooner rather than later. He was bought purely as a pet.

I'd be trying to distract him from the humping then rewarding him when he stops, and also trying to catch him when he's about to do it and reward him for stopping before he does - that's the preferable thing to reward of the two as well as it'll help his self control :-)

Neutering can make zippo difference to them being a sex pest - Remy was a sod his whole life, he had River numerous times each season she had and Paige a couple, and Willow's first season was horrendous - by that point he physically couldn't mount her or even try because of a slipped disc, so he whined and barked his way through it instead.  He was neutered at 10 months!

Is your boy confident generally?  Excessive marking and humping can both be signs of nerves rather than hormones (marking - trying to look confident, humping - not sure what to do but I know how to do this and it feels good!) and if there's a chance that's the case, neutering could make the problem worse.

He seems like a confident little dog. Has had plenty of interaction with other dogs in a dog group I go to. He also behaves appropriately if the humped dog tells him off. He does not hump cushions or peoples legs.
The peeing on leg has occurred off lead and was difficult to spot in time.
Thanks for your comments-- I will keep an eye on things at the moment. He is an only dog BTW.

I'm sorry but I cannot resist.  Did you create a last name to go with this thread?  Or is it co-incidence?

;)

Badcock is a very old British name ;-)

I have family with the surname Badcock :-)

And Louise B has been a member since 2009 ;-)

The children at school were always amused by the name. My daughters were teased as well. It is indeed an old name  maybe originating in the South West but rare up here in the North.

Just an amusing anecdote to this thread. Today I was sitting in the park watching the dogs playing when one of the dogs , not mine came up said hello and ran off. As this happened I felt a warm trickle down my leg ! yes you have guessed it the dog had decided to cock its leg all down mine lol. For a moment I though unknowing ly old age had arrived lol
Home for shower clean leggings and washed boots , owner didn't even notice !
