I will be Importing a Dog from France within the next couple of months and whilst I understand the Breeder will have to arrange all the micro-chipping etc, is there anything that must be done this end, IE: Pet Passport, or is everything done by the Breeder.

Since you will be importing the pup, I would suggest that you take the responsibility of finding out exactly what needs to be done (just look on DEFRA site for Pet Passport) and let the breeder know. If things haven't changed since I imported a pup, it will need a rabies jab at 3 months, and has to be microchipped when this is done, details put on pup's Pet Passport (so breeder has to do all this) and then pup can come into UK 3 weeks after the date of the rabies jab. You will need to check what needs to be done re flea / tick treatments and the timescale on the DEFRA site as I think this has changed since I imported. Will you be collecting the pup yourself?

Ensure the breeder knows to get the worming for the passport done (by a vet) between 1 and 5 days before the pup leaves -and don't book the channel tunnel for the wrong time. :) It has to have been done at least 24 hours after worming before you check in for the tunnel or you won't be allowed on and will have to wait until the passport becomes valid, and will have to pay out to rebook the ticket at extra cost. Had that happen in March when the breeder thought he was being helpful in ensuring the worming was done LESS than 24 hrs before, when it should be more. And of course when you book your ticket, you need to book the dog in and pay extra for that -but that is really all you need to do.

I assume you will KC register the pup here, so you need to ask the breeder to transfer the pup into your name as you will need to provide the KC with copies of foreign papers (reg cert or pedigree) showing you are the official owner, before you can register it here.

Keep everything, the KC now want copies of pets passport etc to prove the dog has been legally imported, so I even copied the sticker they put on your vehicle showing the passport was checked. Better safe than sorry.

The breeder needs to know that the microchip must be put in before the pup has its vaccinations.

I didn't know that re the KC wanting copies of the pet passport. A good idea
