I have booked to travel in October for 12 days. Just flights. What sort of travel  /health insurance do I need to think about.

Good comprehensive travel insurance is essential. All medical costs in the USA have to be paid as there is no reciprocal health care agreement with the UK; hence why policies that include the us and Canada are more expensive. The government here won't pay costs to repatriate you if (sadly) the need arises. If you are going abroad again within 12 months a multi trip policy may be worth considering. If you have ANY pre existing medical conditions then please, please read the small print.
If you can't afford travel insurance you can't afford to travel! (Not aimed specifically at you btw)

Thanks for the advice. I havent ever been outside the EU so a big thing for me. Need to get it right :-)
