Topic Dog Boards / Health / spray for fleas in house

Ive just moved house and am certain the lady who owned the house before has left behind fleas. My dogs have never ever had fleas and are always treated with a spot on treatment but from the day i moved in i have been covered in bites. My dogs are constantly scratching but have had them all fully checked and not a flea in site.We do walk in areas with long grass and am wondering if it has something to do with this, one of my dogs has a grass allergy so i know why she scratches but the others have never been affected. The lady who lived here before did allow her dogs in the house but were kennelled at night and going by the the disgusting state of the kennels( which are getting pulled down soon,my dogs are house dogs) and the straw bedding i wouldnt be surprised if there are fleas so id appreciated any advice of recommended brands of spray and what to do as ive never had fleas in my house before. Thanks

Just to say you might not find them but that does not mean they are not there!  Year before last two of mine were scratching for the longest time, and time and time again I searched them for fleas and found no hint of them whatsoever.  In the end I took the worst to the vet and she found one inside of 30 seconds!

That happened to me years ago. I took a scratching dog to the vets as I had diligently searched her for fleas and couldn't find any, only for him to find one almost immediately. He told me he kept a few in his pockets for just such occasions! :-)

I've used Acclaim as a preventative.

I agree that Indorex spray is very good.  It may be prescription only, I'm not really sure, but I did buy mine from my vet.

Acclaim is excellent, have used it for many many years.
It can be found in most branches of Boots - I believe it's recommended for people who have house dust mite allergies.

No, it's available over the counter. :-)

Invest in a child's Head lice/Nit Comb. They cost about 99P and if there is anything there to find, the comb will find it.
