Hi :) I haven't been on here in a long time. I'm looking for some recommendations for a moisturising shampoo. Its for a shih tzu and sometimes he gets dry skin. He's been on a prescription diet for years for his bladder, so I can't go changing his food - unfortunately, as he's eating Hills now.

I've been washing him in Summerwinds Shine On, but I'm looking to change to something else. Something nice and rich and moisturising. All suggestions welcome

I have a Yorkshire Terrier bitch that sometimes gets dry skin and a bit scurfy.  I use Hilton Herbs coal tar, neem and tea tree shampoo.  It removes all the scurf.  I also make sure that once the suds have been washed out, I use a really nice conditioner and leave it in for a minute or two before rinsing.  She look so much better after too.

Thanks :) Where is the best place to get that shampoo? Would I need to go to a health shop? What conditioner did you use?

Hilton Herbs usually have a stand at Crufts and I stock up there.  Although when I run out I order online.  Wow I just looked and they have shampoo on offer BOGOF.  Too good to miss out I will order pronto.

I buy 5lit of conditioner from Simpsons but I have a lot of dogs.  You may do as well checking out a pet shop.

What about supplementing diet with EFA?  Essential Fatty Acids.  Helps my boy.  Shampoo effect wears off pretty quickly but he is a Lab and swims and rolls in dirt and sand a lot.

What about oils being fattening? He never had any problem with his weight til he got neutered a couple of years ago, for his prostate.

I guess you mean me and are concerned because of the word "fatty"?  In the link it says they do add calories.  Did not have any concerns with my boy but he is intact and very active.   I suggest you ask your Vet.  If weight gain is a serious issue then maybe they are not for your pup.  Might be worth a try to see though.  Then cut back on food?  There are a lot of health benefits besides improved coat and skin.

The best shampoo and conditioner I've ever used is MD10, they have a range of breed specific shampoos and their "leave in" conditioner is very nourishing to the coat. It's available online or at some shows.

I had a shih tzu with very dry skin the vet prescribed malaseb shampoo.
