Topic Dog Boards / Health / Wart on eyelid

Tara has quite a big wart on her eyelid. It started off smaller and didn't bother her too much (previous vet said to leave it alone then as they often come back)). Now it is making her eye very sore and often has blood in it when bits break off the wart. She is going to see the vet on Saturday. Has anyone experienced similar ? Was it removed successfully ?

I had a Golden bitch like this. She had it removed and it never came back.

My Kizi had this and we decided to get it removed to prevent damage to her eye.

I continued to show her after getting a permission to show letter.

Our standard poodle had one of those. We had it "cut out" when it was quite small - but it came back again. We since let it grow a bit more and had it properly removed. It hasn't come back since :)

It's good to hear that they may not come back after removal :) Bramble had a lump on his eyelid that was removed a few years ago, but it was a benign tumour so not quite the same as this. Tara's is rubbing her eye and causing it to be sore now with some discharge, so I think that it must be removed before it damages the eye :( She is 12 now so it needs to be sorted ASAP - I feel a bit guilty that we were busy looking after Bramble and didn't notice quite how big it had got :(

One of my girls had a wart cauterised a few weeks ago off her bottom eye lid. It wasnt at the point of touching her eyeball but it wasnt worth waiting any longer. Shes been fine since 😄

The vet gave Tara Maxitrol eye drops which have helped the soreness in the eye and slightly shrunk the wart. He is reluctant to remove the wart as it would need an anaesthetic (Tara is 12, although very fit) and as the wart is big there might not be enough lid left to stitch. Can these eyedrops be used on a regular (but not continual) basis (they contain steroids) if the wart grows again ??

Interesting, Lucas has had a small one for a couple of weeks undecided whether to have it removed now or wait & see if it grows larger?

Many years ago one of my collies had one on the top lid when she was 6yrs old had it removed and she lived until 16 and it never came back.
