Willow has a nasty bout of diarrhea. I've taken her to the vets and he has recommended walking her as normal. She's lively and up for it. What do others think? I trust my vet just wondered what others opinions are.

Personally, I wouldn't, but it depends on the tummy upset.

If it's that nasty, are you prepared to risk other dogs 'catching' it?   unless you know what has caused it ;-)

also there's a problem with picking up and cleaning the area, if it's liquid ;-)

I suppose the other way to look at it is,  how pleased would you be, to see someone else walking a dog with nasty diarrhoea - especially if you wouldn't know what's caused it ;-)

I have to say that I dont walk mine if they get upset stomach. As others have said, its the logistics of clearing up whilst out plus I doubt if your dog is really up to it. A day or so wont hurt it not to walk.

Having had to take my boy to the vets at the weekend and spent Saturday night up with him as he was very lethargic and was having to syringe water into him. I would ask that you didnt walk your dog. Our dog has picked this up on a walk in the village im now hoping it doesn't go through all my dogs :-(

Me personally if it was that bad you had to take a trip to the vets I'd avoid it until your dog comes through it.

Thanks all. I had all those thoughts myself so I was a bit surprised at his advice.

Well, since I'm dealing with this myself, my first question is - Do you know the cause?  I've tested for parasites, giarrdia, whatever and there is nothing.  I assume you have too so you know if your dog is leaving deposits with contagions in them.  I agree picking up poop can be well nigh impossible, I don't have to pick up.

My dog's mental and physical health demands he still go for his walk.  It's been a month and a half now and we think he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease.  :(

Movement stimulates bowel movement.  Plus my dog depends on his morning walk to poop as he wants to keep his own yard clean.  I would think not walking might throw the dog off even more, mine for sure would try to hold on, and possibly make things worse.
