Topic Dog Boards / General / Dogs wee vs bitch wee smell

Just wondering do boys have smellier wee that girls usually ?

My bitches have always had a certain smell to their wee but since we have had Bog I have noticed his wee absolutely stinks !

He drinks plenty of water and has never had an infection. Sitting here out in the garden with the waft of his pee drifting over from where he has just cocked his leg !

:-D Yes, boys pee is definitely smellier IME, guess it has to be for marking out territory, when it comes to pee much prefer bitches at least they just go on the ground and it either sinks in or is easy to clean whereas the boys not only have stronger urine but they always go on my garden ornaments, benches etc, the smell doesn't sink into the ground like the girls which I guess is also why it stays longer and wafts over to us ;-), hence spending extra time cleaning too, boys eh........... :-D

Yep it stinks and you need to keep on top I disinfecting the areas in a garden if not it will seriously hum. I've been to some peoples homes with mLes and clearly they don't disinfect too often as you can smell pee as soon as you get into their garden... Ick!!!

Entire males do :). The testes produce chemicals for scent marking. Castrating a male will tone it down a lot. Incidentally it is not just dogs that have smellier wee. Entire male humans have much smellier wee than their female counterparts :)

I don't know too many neutered human males.   :-)  :-)  :-)

Although I know a few human females that wished they were.

I think the last Castrato was around 100 years ago.

My un-neutered hubby is convinced that his 'pee' up the garden around the chicken house is what keeps the foxes at bay!!!
He may be right,  we don't have a problem with foxes but boy is there a ''hum'' by the shed door.
I could piddle loads in a bucket and it would never whiff like his!!

My young boy dog is starting to leave his perfume about the garden and even the girls notice it.

I am convinced 'knackers makes sniff' both in men and dogs

Oh yuck.  My friend's husband does that too, pees around the garden to keep deer and other nibblers out of it.  Except their garden is in their front yard so he pees in a container then pours it out along the edge.  I thought I would upchuck when she told me that because we trade vacation duty to feed cats and water garden and stuff and along with it we each harvest whatever is ready in the other's garden when we are there.  I guess the actual vegetables are safe but I hope I stepped Over in the right spots along the edge.   Yuck.

and here am I and other board members always looking for the best way to GET RID OF PEE SMELL!!!

I let the 6 girls out first thing, then chuck water over where they have had their morning pees (on the basis morning pee is the strongest), then it's bucket of water and bleach, followed by watering can and Zoflora, and then poo pick ups every time anyone goes, straight in lidded bucket to keep the flies away.

Back to that old question what do you find best to get rid of wee smells safely , I have cats too ?

Ive been using biological washing poweder mixed with warm water as a couple of people on here at advised. It seems t reduce the smell but I wouldn't say it takes it away completely. Ive been doing it at least once a day.

Blinking boys hey !

Another thing he does is store up gallons of wee then stands there for ages and gets wobbly on his one leg that is holding up and nearly falls over ! He never ceases to amuse me !
