Dose anyone on here feed natural instinct food as I am thinking about changing mine from complete dry food with a small amount of tin food to this as I have been told one of them who has a dry coat, it will improve. What anyone else's opinion.

I've just started feeding natural instinct. Love it, as does my dog (who has never had an interest in dry food). It's complete so you don't need to add anything to to like you would with DIY raw, although I feed raw bones too for teeth cleaning (and entertainment!). I didn't change into it because of coat condition so can't pass judgement, but the person that recommended it to me said it worked great. My dog is certainly a lot less itchier now :)

That's interesting as my even though treated for fleas do itch a lot. Did you change straight over or gradually?
- By sqwoofle [gb] Date 29.06.14 10:58 UTC
Mines treated for fleas and I'm grooming everyday so would be seeing them is they were there! I was told it could be a reaction to grain (not by a vet, just by a recommendation) and thought about trying raw - as we were on kibble before. She's stopped itching now, we've been on NI for about 3 weeks and it's noticeable.

Some people said when changing to raw to starve the dog for a day, then go straight onto raw - but the dog feeder in me wasn't keen, so went with the recommendation on the NI website and gradually changed over 7 days substituting a 7th of the kibble for the equivalent of NI. You have to do some math though as my 9kg terrier was on about 300g a day puppy kibble and is now on 180g puppy NI a day.

That surprises me that you are actually feeding less now. I think I will do it the same as you as I do not like starving and I think mine would not tolerate not being fed for a day.

I feed raw and have fed natural instinct. I personally think nutriment is better so have a look at that too :) you'll love it! My dog never thrived on kibble and now he adores his food and looks great!!! If you are on Facebook there are lots of groups such as "raw feeding rebels" and "raw feeding uk" where you can get lots of tips and ask questions!

I was tossing up between Nutriment and NI, I think the only reason I went for NI is because I can buy it locally, where as I would have to have Nutriment delivered. Just seen its review in Dog world too!

Oh I don't get that newspaper! What does it say? Yes I get nutriment delivered. It comes very well packaged! It's in a polystyrene box to keep it frozen :)

How long ago did you swap over?

Thanks for all you help and advice this might improve my show dogs coat hopefully.

Oh yes definitely! A great tip for improving coat is also coconut oil and fish oil
- By peppe [gb] Date 01.07.14 16:40 UTC
Never heard of coconut oil where do you get that.

Probably about a month ago. I have a tiny freezer so not much room for storage - it works out I can pick up a tub of NI on my way to work once a week and it lasts. As I'm working Monday - Friday so I worry that if they delivered it in the morning it would have gone over by 5pm in the sun! Lol

The review was quite good!

Tescos have glass jars of coconut oil. It's semi solid unless it gets warm then it becomes sort of slushi. Dog loves it.

I get mine from holland and barrat and have a 35kg Goldie and he gets a teaspoon in every meal so lasts for ever! The only thing you need to make sure is that the coconut oil is raw and cold pressed. I use this one - http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/tiana-extra-virgin-coconut-oil-60076228

Well I have started the NI food and mine love and no loose poops
- By sqwoofle [gb] Date 07.07.14 12:14 UTC
The poo is amazing. It took mine a few weeks to get used to, but now she has a couple of poos a day - they are rock solid like tiny balls! (Great to stand on by accident as they just crumble and don't stick to your shoes! Haha)

What flavour(s) did you get?
- By sqwoofle [gb] Date 07.07.14 22:44 UTC
Mine is still on Puppy at the moment, and that only comes in chicken - so were on that right now. Not sure which flavour to go with next though! They say chicken is best for starting out raw, then beef, lamb and tripe. Dog will have a more exciting menu than I do :P
