We very sadly and suddenly lost our 14 year old Bichon on Wednesday. Our 10 1/2 year old Bichon is missing her terribly, as are we, particularly during the night when she is constantly crying. They slept together in the kitchen and the younger one has never been alone overnight as they've always been together.  We have tried getting up regularly to settle her and also tried leaving her to cry but she is literally crying all night which is upsetting for her and us.

Does anyone have any advice on how to address this situation?

Bring her into the bedroom with you until she learns to adapt.

I had to put my Labrador to sleep Wednesday too so I know just how your feeling right now I to would take her in the bedroom. And take her on lots of interesting walks and play with her a bit more to keep her occupied.

I am so sorry for your loss.

If you do not want to take her into your bedroom, try leaving her with a hot water bottle and a quiet radio. A thundershirt may also help  her to feel more secure.

So sorry for your loss and of course we can't explain to the one left behind. I would go back to treating them as if they were a puppy, crate in bedroom which might reassure them when they wake. I would also consider the use of a DAP diffuser or rescue remedy. During the day if possible and the dog could tolerate it I would up the exercise or do something different with them, maybe a new activity to try and distract them or tire them.

Hope things improve soon.

How sad. Bring her in your bed if you are ok with that and do lots of extra walks in the sunshine if you can. Be kind to yourselves. Good luck.

She sounds distraught poor lass.  You mustn't just leave her to cry, that's just cruel.  She could make herself ill with the pining.  I would be bringing her bed into my own bedroom so that she can be comforted.

I am truly sorry for your loss.
