>>She agreed and told them how she come about buying him and the truth about finding out he was likely to be a pit bull after the lady in the pet shop told her earlier this year.>>

When I saw this I cringed knew what outcome would be

I know she has been far too honest, too honest for her own good. They have had a call to say he hasn't been destroyed and have not been able to get bloods yet as he is not sitting still he is  wanting kisses off them. The husband is in a terrible state and has cried all afternoon :( . I don't think he looks full pitbull , I'm hoping and praying that the bloods ( when they get them! ) come back boxer cross which I think is quite possible.

Let's hope Cani1 that a miracle will happen, I wonder who called the police in the first place too, do you think it was the pet shop lady? She has a lot to answer for here, I hope that her license is in jeopardy here. I don't blame the police they can't afford a backlash from any bad publicity in knowingly allowing a Pit to go unchecked, imagine if years on this dog is involved in biting or a scuffle (even though he sounds like a lovely dog) the police would be in the firing line no doubt, everyone would be baying for their blood in knowing and doing nothing.

I have my fingers crossed for that miracle.............. so heartbreaking, but your friend mustn't blame the police, they are only doing their job, someone reported this, someone bred an iffy pup, and someone else sold a pup not knowing its history   and then your friend blurted that to the police, lots of people are to blame here for this, but not the police.........

Fingers crossed for you poor dog. x

A lady over the road didn't like the look of him, they haven't lived in the new house very long. They are a really nice family and keep themselves to themselves.

The pet shop didn't sell the pup, it was advertised on the noticeboard but the lady in the shop was supposed to find out they were pit bulls at a later date and told her when she went in to buy supplies.

I said from the beginning this was all wrong, I would not buy a dog from a notice in a pet shop, there are so many people out there need educating in how to buy a puppy / dog. I also agree the police have to do their job, I've had incidents with this breed attacking one of my dogs in the past and lectured the owner( young lad) what could happen. Luckily he listened to me and keeps them on lead and secure now.

What did she think the police would do, just sit on information like that, not forward it? They were acting on the dog possibly being a pitbull, she more or less told them he definitely was..... silly woman, the breed is banned now, the law is the law, there is no differentiating between thug owned dog and much loved pet owned, they have no choice but to destroy the dog, there is no point in anyone being mad, the police are obeying the law, the owner allowed her mouth to run away with her, a nice well balanced dog will no doubt have to be destroyed, Trevor Cooper can no longer help here IMO.

The dog doesn't have to be destroyed, if the dog has a good temperament they can chose to fight it in court and if a judge rules the dog does not pose a danger to the public (good temperament, no previous complaints and owner deemed fit to keep it ect) then the dog can be put on the exempted dogs list and allowed to live under certain conditions.

As far as I know, they don't use DNA tests (far too unreliable and inexact); instead a Dog Liaison Officer uses measurements against a "standard" of what a Pit Bull is meant to look like.

How sad, but if she signed him over, she more or less signed his death warrant.

Just an update on this situation, they have been to court today and it's great news, he is coming home and the courts have waived all costs. He is to be neutered and they should have him back in about a week.
I am so pleased for them, they have just lost their old xbreed to a brain tumour so having their boy back should bring happiness back to their home :) x

So pleased the dog has been exempted and is heading home :)

Excellent, what a relief for them, common sense has prevailed :)

Hooray !
So pleased for them :D
As long as they now keep to the rules about owning PB's , they'll be worry free, a lot of dogs were recently seized in dawn raids as their owners hadn't renewed their required insurance, those dogs were all pts, so for gods sake, make sure she is aware that the police do take every aspect seriously, and her dog could be in jeopardy if they don't stick to the rules.

It's the word TYPE all along that is causing problems.

If I may just butt into this conversation ..... the problem with all of this is the wretched Law that bans these 4 breeds.  For me, this was never going to work because fact is you don't blame A BREED, you blame A DEED/the irresponsible owners.   Preaching to the converted here of course but laws that cannot possibly be enforced, are stupid laws.   I thought, in my naivity, that originally all of the banned breeds were meant to be neutered (so the 'breed' died out naturally eventually) and muzzled when in public.   Clearly this was never going to be able to be enforced as has proven to be the case.  So we are now left with this huge grey area with Pit Bulls and PB 'types'.   I so sympathise with anybody who has a big Staffie - to say nothing of the people who buy into those who are now using other breeds with their Pit Bulls.   It's a MESS.

I am so glad that this dog managed to be 'cleared'.   But what stress to all concerned.

Wow! That is one happy ending, they are sooooo..... lucky, I really am very pleased for them.......... now they never have to worry again. Thank you for the update, really did not expect that, but I am over the moon for them. :-) :-)

It really is good news, the owner is aware of the rules and will be following them strictly, she even said if he needs a wee at 3am in the back garden he will be muzzled. As long as they have him back they do anything it takes  :)
