Hi - last Sunday I managed to burn the roof of my mouth with a new potato (mmmm and they say veg is good for you!). The burn is on the two hard ridge bits right at the back. Anyway, it didn't seem too bad the first couple of days and I ate pretty much as normal - in hindsight probably not a good idea. Now here I am Saturday night and I'm in so much discomfort, it's been bad since Wednesday. Today I've managed cool porridge, cool scrambled eggs, cool soup and a couple of slices of very soft homemade bread with no crusts. I'm taking ibuprofen, I've used ambesol (spelling?) and a cooling gel and this evening I've started on salt water mouth washes. Any other ideas ?. I'm not sure how long I should leave it before going to my gp but the only thing I can see will heal it now is to stop eating completely and sip warm water. I'd never have believed such a split second burn could turn out like this :-(

Teegel or Bongela, cover the painful part with one or the other of that, it will ease the pain, failing that try Orajel, the mouth does actually heal really quickly although it doesn't feel like it at the moment.
Mild salt washes will help but one or the other of the above will help the pain

I was going to say Orajel too, that was the only stuff that touched my wisdom teeth pain some time back. Sounds so sore! Hope it heals up soon.

Sounds pretty bad - how about trying some dispersible aspirin (aka soluble aspirin). You can shwoosh it around your mouth and the bits in it lodge in the parts that need it. When I have bad tooth pain (which is often unfortunately) I find this gives the best relief.

Thanks all. I've not got any soluble aspirin or the gel you mention but I'll see what I can find later today. I think the salt water washes are helping, they certainly ease the discomfort for a while. I'm worried now though because I have quite a nasty earache. Probably unrelated, more likely because I'm very down in the dumps for all sorts of reasons, but on top of the burn pain I could really do without it.

Poor you, sounds so painful :-(
Oil of cloves, just one drop rubbed on the painful part is brilliant for killing the pain, but also a really good antiseptic/healing promoter :-) Great for toothache too. But don't take aspirin/ibuprofen if you do this ;-) And of course, if you know you're allergic/sensitive to cloves, then don't use it ;-)
If you don't have oil of cloves, you could try some honey, mixed with a pich of powdered cloves, this works too.
To promote healing, honey will help no end ;-)
Hope you feel better soon x

Still suffering but seems easier. Lots of salt water (yuk) but it appears to work. Can't eat anything solid yet but fingers crossed another day of mush will help.
