My dog is going to have an operation on her back end.
I have seen a few new different designs on the "lampshade" to stop her licking the operation site.
Which of the new types have people used and found good?
There will be somebody with her at home but realistically there will be points when she will not have 100% attention (small toddler in the house)...

I've tried the inflatable type, I certainly wouldn't go back to the old type, my dog didn't seem to mind the collar at all, he didn't bang into things with it, and quickly discovered it doubled as his own portable cushion.
This type wouldn't do for all injuries though, I imagine they wouldn't work for paws, or if you had a particularly limber dog.

Do you think it would work for a spay wound, Celli? My GR will be in for the op soon, but she is quite long backed and I wonder if the inflatable one would stop her getting at it. Do have the lampshade type in the attic somewhere.

Yes, I have the inflatable "donut" type and I think they are much kinder than the old style lampshades as the animal has a better field of vision.  Would recommend them.

Mine tolerate the inflatable collar very well, but it doesn't stop them getting to their extremities - long nosed, long legged breed :-) It was fine for a spay wound though so I guess it would depend where the op site was and how flexible your dog is?

For after spay on small breeds baby grows are great. My boy had testicle problems to stop him licking he wore my sons old underpants his tail went through the Yfront. He also wore long sleeved t shirt after op on his elbow. He never tried to take either of them off and didn't try to get to wounds.
