In the UK, obedience competition starts with the Pre-beginners class followed by Beginners, Novice, Test "A", Test "B" and Test "C". Pre-Beginners and Beginners classes are based on the handler and once won out of can never be returned to even with a new dog. Anyone who has won out of Beginners, brinning out a new dog must start in Novice. To become an Obedience Champion a dog needs to win three Obedience Challenge Certificates under three different judges.
