Anyone had a dog on this long term? My 14 year old Lab has just started on these pills for his arthritic legs and they are doing him some good. However, I have been reading up on them online and they have some bad history with some dogs. He is also receiving some amorous attention from one of the Flatties, also male, will this be a result of the steroid in these tablets affecting his sexuality?

Flattiemum will be interest in replies to your post. Have a boy at 9 with severe osteoarthritis & skin probs who occasionally has been on PLT for a month or so as it helps with his skin & pain relief. I'm aware it's supposedly more 'detrimental' (if that's the right word) than other NSAIS or steroids but I'm trying to weight the options still? Tried previcox recently & he didn't react well at all, so stopped them, sorry can't help with tablets affecting sexuality.

The steroid dose is supposed to be quite small, I'd be surprised if it affected him in that way but I've only used it in a female dog so don't quote me on that!

I can tell you they were brilliant for Saffi - her joints are absolutely awful, she went through almost every NSAID on the market at one point until we hit PLT and it made the world of difference.  She was on it for nearly a year.  She doesn't get it now - two courses of ABs triggered a year long bout of colitis so I have to be careful what she gets now, but on a combo of raw feeding, devil's claw and DLPA she's doing as well as she was doing on PLT.

My westie was on these for at least 4 years without noticing any problems except some colitis intermittently. They worked very well for him where as previclox and carpreeve made him sick.
They also kept his appetite going when he was going off food not long before we lost him.

In a 5 mg PLT tablet there is only 1 mg of steroid so a very small amount per tablet.
