Would need more pictures for a better look at leg length and overall shape etc but looks like a Jack Russell cross to me...

JeanSW is the person to ask but to me it looks like it could be a badly bred one (loads of them about). Could you also please pop over to your other thread and update us?

I'd imagine it is pretty hard to get hold of good examples of purebred chi bitches, as with the small litters most breeders are likely to keep them for themselves or have someone in the Fancy wanting them.

I'd imagine that more males go to purely pet homes, so those with an eye to making a bit of cash on the fashion for handbag dogs will mate a chi male to a small bitch of another breed or non breed (for example the ubiquitous Russell).  they then have half chi crosses, keep a bitch and mate to chi and you have them being sold as unregistered purebred chi's for more money than my breed go for.

lady across the road has one paid £750 and so obviously part jack.

They most certainly do.  I have a 9 year old bitch here that came from one of the top studs in the country in that colour, but the head is a dead giveaway, not like the photo shown.  I do have another 2 or 3 in this colour.  Barbara is so right.  The only way I could get ahead with the breed was to keep every decent bitch that was born.  I have my bitches spayed at 4 years old.  And given that a normal litter size is 1-3 pups it genuinely takes a long time to get anywhere with a decent line.  (Don't you just love it when small litters are usually all male?)  All my best litters have been from bitches that have 2 pups.  Not like choosing from 8 or 9 pups in some breeds.

Barbara I think £750 is a normal price for a halfway decent KC registered Chihuahua, it certainly is in Long Coats.  I would agree with Goldmali that the head is a giveaway TBH although the ears would fool a novice or someone looking for pet only.

If someone is looking for a small pet then I am sure they could love a dog with that head.  You could give me a scruffy mongrel and I would love it because it's a dog!  But my problem is with people who lie about the parentage, it makes me so mad.

>Barbara I think £750 is a normal price for a halfway decent KC registered Chihuahua,

Ah but this isn't a dog with any kind of papers at all, and he is the size of a large Russell, deer type head, but fawn.

Interestingly idiot owners allowed a litter to appear by him, from their JRT cross bitch, (who appears Black and white but has spanielly ears) all pups were Brindle.  they were told she was JRT x bichon??

They thought she couldn't possibly be pregnant as she wasn't in season, so why was he mating her, duh!!!

A mongrel then.  :-)

As a bystander, I'd say the ears were wrong, not "ten to two" as I think they are meant to be. But the head looks right to my untrained eye.

That's the worst injustice. And when people are selling crosses for up to £1K, it gets even harder to sort the wheat from the chaff. Nowadays people seem to be only looking to buy in order to make their money back by breeding on... good homes are getting harder to find.

They certainly are in my breed.  I feel that once the recession started to bite people were being sensible and realising that now was not a good time to think about a family dog.  The breadwinners in the family tended to be careful, not knowing whether redundancy would hit.  Of course, these were exactly the sort of families that would normally be ideal for one of my precious pupsters.

So,,, I still got enquiries for a puppy, but the people who wanted one were exactly the type of people that I would say no to anyway.  There was the guy that wanted one "now" and I asked why he wanted one.  He said, it's for the kid to play with.  When I enquired the "kid" was 5 years old.  I suggested he take him to Toys R Us.

I could go on,,  :-(

It seems that most people who buy a toy dog see it as a money back scheme
and if they hadn't thought of making money from their pup, a friend or neighbour certainly thinks they should.

To that end I endorse the KC registration and send out my contract 7 days prior to collection of the puppy.
With only one male puppy to sell this year, I have sent out contracts to three potential buyers so far with a rather full on warning that I WILL uphold it legally and vigorously .....only one delightful lady is coming to view..she REALLY doesn't want to breed from her dog I'm sure....

Id be interested to see your contract tooolz. Also what would be your route if it was to happen forbid it not. I may have plans for a litter next year and the breed is a popular one that also is bought as an investment. I endorse too and haven't had any trouble in the past but you never know.

I just tell them my brother is in the Law, wrote my contract and will pursue it on my behalf.
