Although my friends 7 month old pup has a scissor bite she has the 2 lower PM4 teeth missing. Is this a big deal here or in Europe? I've not had it in any of my dogs so don't know if a judge would penalise it? Are the judges in Europe different?

It depends on the breed. They generally don't count teeth in the UK, just  assess the bite. They're much stricter about missing premolars on the continent.

I guess it depends on the breed, in my breed mouths are checked closely and missing teeth are faulted. The FCI standard indicates penalties for missing teeth. Quote - Absence of more than 2 teeth from the total of 4 P1 and 2 M3. - Absence of 1 tooth or more teeth other than P1 and M3.

European judges tend to check that every tooth is present -we see it a lot as we have foreign judges quite a lot in our breed, and they don't just open the mouth to check the bite is correct, they check every tooth.

At a show the steward had to tell the usa judge that he could not penalize my vintage boy for having missing teeth as he had permission to show for this, he didn't know what this was, the show in question was C RU FT s, the club championship show had another USA judge who was informed what they meant and what to do after warnings about the other judge

depends on the breed. I know in the breed we don't share as such they are picked up with some judges and can be penalised for it. Why does the pup have 2 missing? just not grown or an accident?

They just haven't grown through. Surprising to me as I've seen photos of both parents with full dentition.

Genetics can be a strange thing. Both my parents have full dentition but I have several of my adult teeth missing. I had all my baby teeth but when some didn't fall out I was xrayed  and it was found that several of my adult teeth hadnt formed. The dentists couldnt say why.

They are aren't they. She had all her baby teeth so this wasn't expected. I know of someone who had an oops mating a few years back (think it was mother/son) and some of the offspring had missing teeth.
