My pug has been drinking and weeing a lot recently so took her to the vet with a urine sample the result came back very dilute so had to take another one in the first one in the morning and she also had a blood test that urine sample was a bit more consentrated but not normal level and the blood test has slightly raised liver enzymes the vet given her antibiotics for ten days and she's having an ultrasound scan next Saturday. Has anyone any idea what it could be hope it's just an infection and the antibiotics clear it.

Don't want to cause alarm but ask if there is a test for diabetes insipidus. A friends dog had similar and went through tons of courses of anti-bs until they discovered it was this. I hear it's quite rare though so I think you shouldn't worry.

Yes I was thinking liver disease/ kidney disease or cushings we had the weeing and drinking at Christmas time she had the same tests done then but it seemed to clear up with antibiotics but it's back again now I've had her three years she's about six or seven years old. And had to have major surgery as she had pyro the vet said she had lots of lesions on the bladder and bowel so was in the hospital for a few days obviously why the owners didn't want her. She's been well up till now so wouldn't think it was anything to do with that.

Just to add to the list of 'guesses' about what's going on, how about the possibility of a pyometra (closed will mean you don't see a discharge, although you'd see an increase in the size of the tummy) - unless she's spayed.   This is something I'm sure your vet will have thought about.

Other possibilities, diabetes, kidney infection or disease - for sure.   But don't worry unnecessarily.   And keep away from the Internet because a little knowledge can indeed, be a dangerous thing.   I'm sure your vet has a handle on what needs to be checked for.   And if the antibiotics don't work (it may take time although I like to see some response within a few days - and they might need switching to get a result), he'll have to look further.

I have a bitch that was weeing and drinking a lot 6 months ago.  I asked for tests, and naturally they start with the "normal" tests first, so I didn't get an immediate diagnosis.  Eventually she tested positive for Cushings.

She was put on medication, and has regular blood tests and recently had her dose altered.  Another test in 3 months.  She had got very thin in her coat.  It took a while, but it's amazing now to see a huge regrowth - Yorkshire Terrier, so it really does show.

Thanks everyone for your responses perhaps it's just an infection hopefully she has a lovely soft shiny black coat so no problems there and she's not ill or in any pain. She drinks a lot then seems to need to wee straight away it's as tho she can't hold the water in. I'm trying to wright this with three pugs on me lap almost impossible. Lol

Poppy had her ultrasound scan done liver/kidneys/ bladder was all clear nothing found she's been on two lots of synulox antibiotics four a day. We went back to the vet yesterday urine test was back to normal vet done another blood test the Alt liver enzyme was back down but the white blood cells was even higher then last time so got to pick up some more but different antibiotics this morning. Go back to vet in ten days and have another scan and more tests if the white blood cells are still high. He said there's infection somewhere got to find out where. This is getting worrying now.
