Does anyone at all have any knowledge on how much power the British embassy has .

My sister lives in Saudi but cannot take her children out of the country . Should war break out in the Middle East and foreigners moved out of the country would the Embassey be able to help her or would the Embassey be bound by Saudi law ?????????? I believe U.S citizens have already been warned to leave already

Are the children British citizens or Saudi nationals? If they are British, then I would think the embassy could help, as they are classified as "foreign territory" within a country....ie the French Embassy in London is technically French territory.

If they are Saudi nationals, however, I would think there could be problems. :( Sorry I can't help more.

One was born in UK and has dual nationality but the baby was born there . Even though my sis is english could the British embassey not intervene to help bring the kids home too or do they have to abide by Saudi law?
Any advice would be much appreciated

This is such a tricky one, without knowing all the details and with only a smattering of law. I think your sister's best bet would be to contact the embassy herself, because if her husband is Saudi and doesn't want the children to leave, I think that would probably take precedence over her wishes :(.

This is more to do with the Geneva Convention than any particular countries laws. My sister lives in the USA and has a daughter who was born there but has dual nationality. Before she could bring her daughter to the UK without her husband, even for a holiday she had to go to an Attorney and have him sign saying that he was permitting her to take the child out of her country of birth and that she was free to do so anytime in the future. This was very useful when she got divorced as otherwise she would not have been allowed to bring her daughter here, if she had done so and her then ex had contacted the police claiming kidnapping she was told the child would have been taken from her at Heathrow and returned to the USA on the next available flight.

If your sisters husband is willing or would prefer the children to come here in the event of war etc then he has to notify the authorities I assume like my ex brother in law did, so that no claim of kidnapping can be laid against your sister. If however he does not and they are both Saudi Nationals the UK Embassy can and probably will do nothing - they are notorious for abiding by the national laws and the convention. My understanding of the convention is that any child born in the UK even with dual nationality passports are still deemed to be British Citizens ergo to be returned to their country of origin.

Her poor husband has actually died and therefore she has to apply for permission to her father-in-law who has previously refused permision .
I am just so worried with the impending war situation .
Just hoped someone may have had any knowledge on this subject .
Thanks everyone for replying
