Hiya guys just needing a little advice. I have a girl on day 57 shes had an easy sailing pregnancy with no problems untill now, she is a flat nose toy breed and a maiden bitch shes from a line of self whelpers and is the kc perfect measurments for her breed, anyway to cut a long story short she quite enjoys lying on the sofa next to me and me listening to feotal heartbeats as i have been today whilst she was relaxin. Just to mention a couple of days ago i noticed she shed her plug so whilst listening today to heartbeats i noticed a little smell coming from her vulva not fishy or bad smelling quite hard to describe but i noticed it and on further investigation i could see her vulva is quite puffy so am thinking labour is not far away so just to check if i could see any funny coloured discharge i had a quick look at her vulva and as i just very slightly opened it at the entrance i could see a tiny little bubble protruding just very little, now i've always for the last 10 year shown and bred little white fluffy toy breeds if u no what i mean but never flat nose ones this is a first for me. Shes shown no distress acting as usual no digging panting absolutely nothing so am wondering is this the pressure of the weight of the pups or maybe a bit prolapse has anyone had this and is it normal for this breed?? Im going to go to vets in the morning as i have a very good relationship with them and trust what they say but am trying to rack my brains in the mean time any suggestions wud be greatly appreciated.

i would say its a very light pink. x

If there is a bubble type thing protruding from or just visible in her vulva then this is most probably a waterbag and means the pups are imminent. If nothing happens in an hour or so since you first saw the bag I would call your vet and get her  checked  out.

Thankyou for your reply can i just ask wud it be possible to be a water bag if shes had no other symptoms at all shes eating and drinking fine absolutely no change in her i think she may be carrying a big litter as shes very large so thought cud it be the pressure ay suggestions are welcomed has anyone else had this before

yes it wouyld be possible. Whilst the majority of dogs will go off their food not all will. If she is carrying a big litter she may not be able to push effectively.

I had a small breed bitch a few years ago who had a very big litter for her size. a few days before I was expecting the litter I noticed a couple of small attemps to dig but then nothing else. I kept a close eye on her but circumstances meant I had to leave her for an hour. When I got back she had a water bag protruding from her vulva. It was about the size of a ping pong ball. my bitch didn't appear to be pushing and just wanted to sit and be cuddled. The water bag burst about half an hour but no puppy appeared. Went to the vet and even with shots of oxytocin she didn't manage to contract so had to have a c section. Vet said she was so big uterus was over stretched and unable to contract. Thankfully puppies all OK

I don't see your reasoning.  The size of a toy breed will depend on how much fluid she is carrying.  I would never judge how many pups in a litter by the size of my bitch.  It's amazing how big a difference this will be, not just in difference between bitches, but also from whelping to whelping.  Not all bitches carry the same every time.
