Hi All,
Not sure if this should be here or in the feeding section.......I have a bitch who is (Hopefully) 3 weeks in pup who has developed a sensitivity to her current food (Eukanuba......don't shoot me down please,my lot have always done great on it, including great hip/elbow scores so have been reluctant to change). I am thinking of changing her to Arden Grange and was wondering if anyone has any experience rearing a litter using this....I have heard some say the weaning puppy food can cause upset tums and you have to change to the normal puppy food at 8 weeks which seems not ideal as pups will be going through a lot of changes then.
They will be a large gundog breed and was hoping others may be able to share any experiences about weaning/rearing large breeds on AG.....also any thoughts on Simpsons for large breed pups?
Any feedback appreciated...I feel out of my comfort zone having used the same food for 15 years :-(
Thanks,
Ali

I have never had any problem with using the Arden grange prestige for both pregnant Mum and for pups it's 30% Protein 20% fat,(I felt the weaning puppy food too high and only supposed to be until two months, and preferred the puppy Junior for when they were leaving).
Though Mum may be fine on the 26% protein Lamb and rice.
My last 3 litters have been reared this way and never had a problem in the pups although small problem with my last litter when I continued feeding Mum on the puppy so changed to adult. ( may have been more to do the fact I was giving her puppy milk so stopped that as well.
They have done great on it and no problems with tummy upsets at all. I feed the weaning from say 3 to 6 weeks approx. and then when it runs out go onto the puppy so they are ready to go. I noticed no problem when changing from weaning to puppy and they all ate very well so happy with the food.

I've used Arden Grange for years without any problems, weaning, junior and adult. I now feed raw
Thankyou all for the replies,
Sorry to not get back on sooner but I wanted to see how she was on the AG before reporting back.
So far so good, she is on the Prestige.....now have to make the decision which is best to wean puppies onto....The prestige, weaner or puppy large breed. Not to sure I like the idea of changing puppies food between 3 and 8 weeks so am tempted to go straight to the puppy large breed.
Thanks again

Personally I offer my pups several different types of food while they are still with me as I feel it helps them adjust to changes in their new homes better.
Don't think I have ever had a problem with a pup leaving me and mine only have the weaning then the puppy.
Ok.....maybe I spoke a bit too soon......I increased the amount yesterday as she was looking slighty ribby and last night she wanted to go out at 3 a.m and had a pretty soft poo. It wasn't terrible but I am now wondering if the prestige could be too high in protein for a bitch with a sensitive stomach and if we are going to have problems when we need to increase food at 6 weeks.
She had a very long course of Synolux 6 weeks ago due to a blackthorn injury that was a bugger to heal and caused a deep seated infection and it took a while to settle her tum after the antibiotics so don't want to be too hasty to blame the food in case it is colitis taking a while to calm down. I have also had her worm screened and giardia, coccidia checked and all clear,
Thanks again for your experiences
