Do you recommend a stag bar for my puppy ive been told by so many people its really good for teeth andteething etc yet 1 person said steer clear as it chipped dogs hind teeth? suggestions please i have bought it but not given as yet.

My dog has them they last ages. For a puppy make sure you get one of the flat fallow deer pieces. They are a lot softer to chew on rather than one of the pointy type horn pieces. When fresh they are fine, its if they have got old and dried out that they can cause damage. I put them in water for a day every so often so they don't totally dry out.

I've never had a problem personally, but there are lots of reports of dogs causing slab fractures with them.
I don't have any on the go currently, but I very much doubt I'd use them again.

I bought one of the flat fallow pieces about a month ago. My dogs haven't left it alone since, and it's now half the size. They have the more usual stag bars, and have had for 2 years, but this seems to be the tops.

Though more smelly I would try bull's pizzle; much safer for puppy teeth in my view. Get the longer ones.

I would use either RAW bones not the big marrow bones but ribs or carcasses or fallow deer antlers they are softer than stag bars so less likely to cause problems. avoid rawhide chews choking hazard You can also get oesophagus if the natures menu frozen range and couple of other things which I have forgotten. All these will last a while

I used the stagbars with mine, the first one was fine and lasted ages, she also use to get bones from the pet shop (both stuffed and big whole ones). However on the second stagbar she broke her back tooth. Not sure if it was the bar or the bones as a while befor we noticed she had bitten threw one of those stuffed bones.
I've also found she has worn off the points of her k9 teeth, and she was only one and a half when I noticed that. So I'm asuming it's from all the bar and bone chewing she did as a puppy.

FF, yes, I do think bones (unless raw chicken wings or similar) are far too hard for puppy teeth. Bull's pizzle (dried penis) does not break down in the same way as rawhide or similar products so it is not dangerous in the way those products are. It has the right amount of give while also being reasonably long lasting (think how much most pups and dogs like to chew wood) and is also highly aromatic so encourages chewing, and most dogs love it. You can get the 24-28 inch ones and cut them in half or thirds depending on dog's size. Try to get the thick ones. Once it reaches a size I think the dog might try to swallow it down whole I remove it.

Sorry yes it is a medium antler not a stag bar? Im in two minds now i dont want his teeth broken he loves pizzle too but is fed raw duck necks usually as
He is on a raw diet (nutriment)

unless fallow antler the bigger flat ones  stag bars under any name are probably  too hard. If he is raw fed just add carcasses and ribs to his food. weigh out to include in his daily food allowance. For teething some dogs enjoy a raw carrot to chew on .
One disadvantage of minced food is that although bone is usually included in the mince ground up the dog doesn't get the chewing of chunky meats/bones which is good for teeth and muscle development in the jaw. Why not move slowly towards some chunky meat for his meals as wellas the recreational things we have talked about.
btw I am not knocking people who use foods like nutriment. raw imo is best however you choose to do it just pointing out one of the points against purely minced food

I'm finding the Fish 4 Dogs twists very good for pups. They take a long time for my little ones to get through and they like to carry and play tug with them.
