No certainly not, as such mattings are not usually successful in our breed and most males are able to tie. A slip tends to happen when the bitch isn't really ready, and another try a day or so later usually results in a proper mating.
I'd always want at least two matings preferably over at least a three day period.
Just a word of warning. Establish the facts before the mating. I once went to use a dog belonging to an acquaintance, we had no tie but a couple of slipped mating's. One pup was the result and the stud dog owner still charged me the full fee !! Needless to say the stud dog owner never rated high enough to go on my Xmas card list. I now establish the financial requirements prior to agreeing to use the dog. Aileen
I never charge a stud fee for a slip tie unless the bitch is confirmed in whelp and has more than 3 live pups, simply because my contract says '2 ties' - that is what is promised but also taking the cost of rearing a litter by the breeder in to consideration.
