Ok - day 10 - 0.6

I would test again. I tend to mate a bitch when results show 17 or over.. either just about to ovulate or just ovulated...

thanks.
We are testing again today for results tomorrow.
She is flagging like crazy and 'Sex pesting' my other dogs.
would you breed at 16 for a live cover only? higher for chilled?
I cant seem to find the conversion chart from ng to nmol any where :-(

for conversion, just divide by 3.18 for nmol/l to ng/l or multiply by 3.18 to converto ng/l to nmol/l
fo chilled semen, I would AI as close to 19 as possible, and if enough semen left, again 24/48hours later.
for natural mating, anywhere between 19 & 31 (at this stage ovulation has already occured)

FOR FROZEN SEMEN THE IDEAL TIMIGN IS 3 DAYS AFTER OVULATION.

Would that be the same for chilled semen though Barbara?... I would have thought level 19 would be ideal, ovulation already occured, with a 1-3 day window.

For chilled the info I have seen has said two days post ovulation, when the eggs start to ripen, as you have longer shelf life to catch the later ovulated eggs.
Ovulation takes around 24 - 36 hours and the eggs are ripe 48 hours later, so three days post ovulation will catch the most.

Thanks so much all.

If an AI mating would work then a live cover would too. If you know of a suitable stud and can get there ASAP

No problem for live mating. At 24 she has just ovulated so mating tomorrow (Friday) is perfect. Friday and Sunday are days 2 and 4 post ovulation so no problem with the timing

I think it was too late :-(
24.3 was in Nmol and fro Wednesday night. By the time she got to stud he wasn't interested and her smear didn't hold much hope :-(

Personally I wouldn't go by smear. So the 24.3 was from blood taken Wednesday night and you went to stud Thursday night? That really shouldn't be too late, if anything a day too early (although mating on ovulation or 1 day after would still be ok as the sperm will live for several days)! Are you sure its read in nmol and not ng? If it were ng then yes very probably too late.

Yes, 24.3 was from Wednesday evening.
Stud was a 9 hour drive so we got there for late thurs early Friday.
Deffo in Nmol

I really don't think you should give up hope Ghost. If this helps at all, my girl was 19.3 nmol Wednesday 4pm, she was mated Friday 7.30pm and has been scanned with a large litter. Her previous litter she was 25.5 nmol Friday morning 11.30am, mated Sunday lunchtime, 9 puppies. Fingers crossed for you, please come back on and let us know. Just realised, you haven't said if you got a mating or not, just that the stud wasn't interested?

Yes, we did get a mating in the end :-)
Fingers crossed!

Scanned today - empty :-(
How sad - perhaps next time xxx

This was our second try with this bitch.
First time we travelled to stud in Ireland - missed.
Second time sperm from same stud was only 15% so used second choice - missed again.
Have to assume fertility issues with bitch - perhaps time to call it a day
Try a different stud dog - one of my girls missed twice to same dog, decided to go for a 3rd and final try... new stud lived much closer, and she was so much more relaxed, really enjoyed the whole experience - result super litter which we repeated 15 months later. Kept a bitch from each litter and they are amazing girls...

We've tried 2 different studs - but both at least 9 hour journeys :-(

Sorry to hear that Ghost, I've had my fair share of misses and they are gutting. I wouldn't give up hope. My girl who has just had her 2nd litter missed 3 times before she had her 1st litter. I have to say that progesterone testing really carefully is what made the difference for me. She was also CHV vaccinated when she conceived 1st time. Didn't vaccinate for this litter though so not sure if that was just coincidence last time.

Thanks.
I'm not entirely without hope - the first miss we now think was due to the males sperm count.
The second time (this time) we were waiting till the last moment as we were going to use chilled semen until the collection showed the semen was below 15% - so we went to stud much later then we would from a natural, she also seems to take ages to ovulate (day 18) and then rises very fast!
She was at 22.3 on Tuesday (got results Thirs pm) - drove to stud that night - 9 hours away . Did a smear which showed most eggs were dying.
So perhaps she isn't infertile - just wrong stud and second time wrong timeing - who knows!
