Last Christmas my 5 year old sheltie ruptured ligaments in the left hind leg and after several months was just about returning to some sort of normality abd enjoying life again. Then suddenly about 2 weeks ago she went rather down hill, became sluggish, off her food, has missed a season [this has worried the vet] and she is on a course of ABs as he suspected an infection - maybe in the uterus - and has advised spaying asap. I was due to take her back on Wednesday for him to assess her. However unbelievably yesterday she came in from the garden lame on the other (right) hind leg, I couldn't believe it. It just seems to be one thing after another for the poor girl at the moment. I don't see how this can be dealt with, last time she had a good leg to use (although she was on pen rest for ages) but this time there is no good leg as the left hind that had the original injury is not completely strong yet although she was getting there. Then there is the spaying issue to be sorted .... I really feel quite depressed and down as she is my pride and joy with such a sweet nature.
We have a 9 week wire haired terrier puppy, Sophie, who is an amazing little character, feisty as can be but requiring a LOT of attention so I am tearing my hair out at the moment. At this moment she is asleep .......
I have managed to get an appointment to see the orthopaedic vet who has been treating Isla, my sheltie, this afternoon and I know he will be upset too as she was doing so well.
Thanks all for reading this miserable post but I can't see the wood for the trees at the moment.

Hi All
Isla is in the vets and has had bloods etc done and ultrasound on womb.Have spoken to the vet. All clear thank goodness and no pyometra. He thinks the lumps on her tummy were abcesses which have now diminished thanks to ABs (and a mystery as to why they appeared). So I have told vet to go ahead with spaying anyway as it needed to be done and he is taking xrays of back legs at same time. I expect I am looking at the end of the year before she returns to her former glory! (Legwise that is).
I am waiting to hear how she is recovering from surgery, I know she will be very sorry for herself for a while.
Typing this is a challenge as our new puppy Sophie is trying to a) get on my lap (very affectionate she is), b) chew carpet, and now I fear I need to get her in the garden before another accident happens! Oh well she is such a sweetie and has taken my mind off Isla's troubles.
Thanks all for your good wishes.
