Hi guys

I've been researching insurance companies and seems like a minefield out there, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a company to insure my new newf

I have always used Petplan. They are undoubtedly expensive, but they have always been totally fair and paid out for any claims

The one trusted by most vets as being the one least likely to quibble about paying out is Petplan. Not the cheapest though. Make sure you go for 'Lifetime' insurance, whichever company you choose.

im with animal friends and have not had any problems, when I made a claim they were happy to pay me what I had already payed over the excess then payed the vet the rest.

Pet Plan every time, I have tried others but still return to PP as they are the best

I would recommend Petplan as well.  I have no dogs with them at the moment (I just can't afford it with two dobes and 8 dogs altogether) but have had in the past and they were excellent :-)  Right now I'm with Animal Friends and Aviva, Aviva are ok but not massive cover which might be a problem; AF also ok, only had one major problem which I'm having right now, which is because Remy has so many exclusions, they're trying to get out of his latest condition.

The excess is steep too - £99 + 35% as soon as the dog hits 8, that is my one major gripe with them.  I know other companies add percentages but to do it for every dog at the same age, I don't like, especially when a lot of dogs live well into their teens these days.  But, they do cover older dogs with new policies and don't restrict them so that is a big plus - they covered my 10yr old rott X last year and have just paid out for her only claim (cancer) with them including their percentage of the euthanasia, which I think is unusual among insurers with older dogs.

So, pros and cons with them.  All things considered if you can afford it, I'd go for Petplan.  My dog with them did get a percentage added but only once she turned 10, and it was 20%.

Yes I was with pet plan for 12 years and couldn't fault them paid out every time for my dog she had a lot of claims over the years. Vetsmedicover is another one to consider I've heard good things about them but not used them myself.
