Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / In season?

Hi my bitch had pups 10 weeks ago, all was fine and she's looking great. She does seem to have come into season again though, is this a cause for concern? Or is it pretty normal for a bitch to come in earlier after having pups? Her last season was early December.
Many thanks
Sian

Yes, they can come n quicker after a litter sometimes. It would be around 4.5 months after her last season but this depends onher normal cycle.

are you sure this isn't just the after whelping discharge continuing longer.

I have had them spotting up to three months after pups are born.

Has she had her big post partum moult?  I would not expect a bitch in season until her coat was in decent condition.

Mine are generally a month or so later in season if they have had pups.

Hi thank for replies, she hasn't molted yet, but looks extremely good, lovely shiny coat she hasn't really looked bad at all from about a week after having the pups. She has stayed in fantastic condition though out, except the first week. I'll just keep my eye on her. Thanks again

Well in the next couple of weeks she will look dreadful as all the coat falls out until she is practically bald :)

It can't be avoided (unless it's a non moulting breed, even short coated breeds are totally moth eaten and think coated.) it's hormonal.

Lol that's something to look forward to then! Bless her she's been such a good girl, produced some fab pups and has been the most laid back, good mum I've ever come across.

Having a litter can upset the normal season cycle, much as with mine, they have gone longer between seasons, rather than the opposite.

The point about a post-whelping discharge is worth considering - again I've had some who have done this for quite some weeks although with those of mine who had C.Sections, that didn't last very long as all the birthing material had been removed, with the Section.   Obviously if you are worried at all, speak to your vet.
