- By littleberry [gb] Date 16.04.14 09:33 UTC
My friend has to rent for 6 months while her house has to be renovated. She has several dogs and is lucky enough to have found a house but the landlord is insisting on taking out an insurance for dog owners who rent. Can anyone recommend anything? Thanks.

We have to rent, but have never been asked to do this.   We have contents insurance, but that's all.   What does the landlord want covered?   The norm would be to take a dog deposit if it's felt necessary - again we've never been asked for this.

I'm assuming they want the renter to take out Third party Insurance against damages etc.

Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to find stand alone Third party Insurance.

Membership of the dogs Trust Includes Third party cover up to a certain number of dogs.

Yes, The Dogs Trust do a Landlords insurance underwritten by Endsleigh - its called 'Lets with Pets' or something like that.

However, its the Landlord who needs to take out the policy and then the landlord can obviously add the premium to the monthly rent figure for the tenant to pay.

The policy is especially for tenants with dogs.

That's very interesting.
