I can't find a single litter of puppies that include a red or fawn sbt. I will be looking to buy a pup(9 wks old) at approx the end of april, and i would really like a red bitch. Are there any breeders in the midlands area who can help me?
Thanks, David.

How far would you be willing to travel? Reds are not very plentiful at the moment - though i know of a lovely black female looking for a home...

What type of dog do you like? They come in all shapes and sizes within the standard.. doyou prefer the shorter leg? Shorter foreface? etc etc... Have a look on the internet and find the dogs that you like and i can then try and find a similar dog, or from the same lines... This is a good place to look at type.

Please please do not buy out of the free ads! If the dogs that are bred are good enough the owners have no need to advertise their litters!!

Have you tried the weekly doggy paper Dogworld, or Our Dogs?

I have listed below some breeder websites for you to look at and contact... Also your local breed club secretaries number - they will know of any litters planned, or on the ground at the moment...

East Anglian sbt club - L. McFadyn: 01992 427698
Notts & Derby - Mr Gatteridge: 01623 752340
Potteries sbtc - Mrs Reader: 01782611514
East Midlands sbtc - Mrs Vann: 01164 840570
THE STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER CLUB - JIM BEAUFOY: 01299 403382

With any breeders that you speak to, ask lots of questions, and expect lots in return - they will not be "eager to get rid of the pups", but want to make sure that you are the right home for them!

I would advise doing some research on the breed, and what lines and dogs you like as this can help others guide you towards a dog that has the right look for you...

Also, expect to pay between 400-500, though i would not pay more than this...

If i can be of any more help in anything, including pedigrees, please let me know,

Alex

Thanks for replying so quickly. Ive done about 4 months worth of research on all available dog breeds in the uk, and finally settled on the sbt mainly for its beauty and excellent temperament and therefore wouldn't consider buying a pup from anywhere other than a reputable breeder(who breeds for temperament as well as conformation). i hadn't tried any of those magazines, but will on your reccomendation.
The notts/derby breed number should be usefull as i live in nottingham and come from burton(near derby).
As for cost i budgeted for a 500 pound dog, so that shouldn't be a problem.
And as for type the dog "ashtock crown court" on the first web-link you gave me pretty much fits my desired standard. I would prefer a red but don't mind some white with it although for some reason red with a black face/muzzle seems to put me off! i would be prepared to travel some distance to find the right dog, as i would have to! But travelling to glasgow from nottingham may be a bit far. 1and1/2 to 2 hours would probably be the limit.
Thanks very much for your help, Alex.

Have a look at some of the breeders listed on this site. Do a search on SBTs and select breeders.

Hi David,

Its worth ringing/emailing many of these breeders/secretaries as they may have or know of a red dog that has been used as stud on a bitch that is nearer to you... Never say never i reckon!

Also, Bowtmans and cragails have some nice quality stock - i have the latters phone number, and could get bowtmans as well if you wanted - though i would have to ask you to mail me privately if that was the case...

Also you can visit www.ourdogs.co.uk which is the online version of the ourdogs paper, this will save you having to order from your newsagents and can subscribe on line as the site is updated weekly and also archives all info which saves having to keep lots of papers :-)

David,
we too had decided on a Staffy pup. Our previous dog was a Staffy and you are right they are excellent dogs although they need LOTS of discipline ( and you need lots of energy) !!

We are on the Wirral in the Northwest and actually got our pup from a breeder on Champdogs . We spoke to several people from contacts given to us by SBT clubs and settled on a lovely breeder who we decided was the right one for us .
We ended up travelling just over 2 hours to Derbyshire for pup but he is an absolute gem
( both in character and in looks ) .
So do as the advice above suggests and ring some numbers - I'm sure you'll find everyone really helpful and willing to offer advice
Good luck :)
If you're successful let us know :)

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I'm actually quite excited after emailing one breeder who may just have the perfect litter on the way, but we'll have to wait and see!
