Hi all, I have my girl here 63 days yesterday from 1st mating and 63 days tomorrow from second. It will be her and my second litter so im starting to worry. My question is, are there any subtle signs of getting near I should no about or may miss? I keep reading if your bitch is eating then don't expect anything in the next 12 hrs - shes just finished eating :(
She is very happy and wagging her tail, same clear discharge since mating. I haven't taken her temperature as I didn't get on with it last time, if anyone has any help, thanks Anne

I can't offer much advice but both my girls eat just a few hours before whelping.
Good luck.
Ok thanks, I will just have to wait and see.
I have noticed her belly looks blue and bruised today.

I'm not experienced enough to give you advice, and it largely depends on your breed, but go with your gut feeling, you know your bitch.

If you are at all concerned check with your vet. Better to have an uneccessary visit than something go wrong that could have been prevented
Thank you, I have decided to give her tonight and will call the vets in the morning.
Still her usual self.

Don't be too complacent. If it is inertia your girl will need a vet sooner rather than later. Do come back and let us know the outcome.

I count from the first mating and I don't let mine go over by more than a couple of days - assuming they are not in distress or having an offensive discharge! Mine do tend to go into secondary inertia - the first pains, and it's ouch mum .... over to you! I have found the smaller the litter, the less inclined they are to come into the world .. the danger there is they are growing all the time, so by day 64/65 I need to find out what's going on!!
Hi, I spoke to a long time breeder in my breed last night who reassured me if theres movement and shes ok it should happen in the next day or so. When I woke this morning I just have a feeling somethings not right, made apt at vets they can see her later today. Im a bit concerned now she may have a sml litter like last time (shes a terrier 3-5pups) she had one last time and lost two later which where undersize, may not be enough in there to start her off.
I did my own cytology this time so do not have an ovulation date

I hope things are well, but please don't let it go too long, like I did. I waited till day 65 (normal is 63/64 for mine) I ended up with black dripping gunk on day 65. A large pup was stuck :( Our girl had a c/section & spay. 4 healthy pups....but I shudder when I think how much worse it could have been x

Any news yet?
Hoping the OP is busy looking after puppies ...
Its been a sad week as there are no puppies. I got to the vets and scanned and there was one puppy and all was well. I was told to give her overnight and if she hadn't started my vet could do a C section the next day, I left happy. When I got home still something was not right but I didn't know what, it was then I noticed her pupils where dilated. Well she quickly started pushing that night but struggled, I put on a glove and examined her but there was no puppy, when I pulled out glove it was green. A scan showed the puppy had died, she had a section and I asked for a spay. I saw the pup she was lovely but shocked that she had a severe cleft palate and would of never survived.
Although it was not going to come to anything anyway, I missed signs and should of asked for a section the first time, a lesson learnt and I feel such a stupid breeder and also for my bitch who was frantically looking for puppies but is ok now. Thanks guys.

How sad. I am sorry that it was such a sad outcome.

Unfortunately it is easy see afterwards what should have been done but not always so easy when going through it. I dont think you are a stupid breeder and will undoubtedly be a better breeder in the future as a result of this experience.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, really feel for you, but at least your girl is alright.

I'm so sorry, you are not a stupid breeder. Hope your girl is ok x
