I know you must have answered this question hundreds of times but it's different when it's your own Bitch, it's almost like you need a personalised answer. So could you please advise on the safest worming treatment for my Bitch who is now at 36 days. Thanks in advance.

I have just had a litter of 10 and wormed her from ( can't remember if 40 or 42 days daily - check ) with Panacur liquid. I have always used this and as far as I know and according to my vet it is one of the safest. It was fine when she was eating wel as wrapped in the meat but towards the end I found it difficult as she went off her food. Also we missed over the couple of days she was having them but my vet did not see it as a big problem.
For people who feed dry I imagine this would be quite a problem as must be really nasty stuff. I did manage to get it down her but more or less by syringe method and I was not very popular.

Then wormed her again shortly afterwards and at 2 weeks with the puppies.

I too am using Panacur, starting on day 40, going through to 2 days post-whelping. We're now on day 54. Panacur is about the best and safest wormer available.

I NEVER worm during pregnancy, I don't want to take the risk, especially not for so many days. So I worm at mating and then bitch gets wormed at same time as pups' first worming. Never had a problem.

I wormed with Panacur 10%, I started a little later than 40 days as advised by my vet, at day 46.  I continued worming the bitch until puppies were 2 days old.  I then wormed mum with pups.

I have used it now on 6 generations of pregnant bitches.

I use Panacur 10 % here too.

I worm at mating and then when pups are two weeks old.  Never had a problem here with that and never seen a worm.

I mix it with Greek yoghurt and the dog think it's a treat!    :-D

Have used Panacur 10% for years.  Don't worry if you find your bitch misses a couple of days because she just won't eat.  I start on day 42 through to 2 days after whelping.  I poach white fish in milk, and just add the Panacur suspension.  I hate forcing it down them with a syringe, and most of it ends up spit in my face.  :-(

The bitch is then done when pups are 14 days, and the pups are dosed over 3 days.  The bitch needs to be dosed on 1 day only, at the adult dose rate.  Remember that the instructions for dosing during pregnancy is actually 1 quarter dose.   So, although it sounds a long time, the dose rate is very small.  I can't recall the exact statistics, but I know that they experimented with doses way over the top, with no problems at all. 

Thank you for that. Today, she was a little sick and doesn't seem quite as interested in her food. I will try the fish later and see if I can tempt her with that.

Yoghurt is great for hiding it in too!

thats interesting. I thought worming in pregnancy was essential to stop the development of roundworms as they are hormone activated?  What risks are there? it would seem from the replies on here that most people use panacur so presumably dont have problems with it. What do you use instead? or dont you worm at all?
