please could anyone give me info on starting to show.I have kept a bitch puppy from my girls litter and (probably biased i know) but think shes outstanding.She has excellent breeding with many champions in her line.Please help as im really interested.Thanx.

First of all, your training class should know of (may even run themselves) ringcraft classes. Whether or not you decide to show her, the training is never wasted! They will know of local Open Shows (the best way to start) or you can get one of the weekly dog papers, either Dog World or Our Dogs. They list all upcoming shows. Go along to one or two (without your dog) and see how it's run....look at the other dogs of your breed and compare them to yours, and how yours compares to the breed standard (open mind needed here!)

Then have a go! Good luck!

Can anyone tell me at what age would a judge stop "allowing" for puppy behaviour in a show?

I reckon it depends on the Judge ...at LKA , the Mal judge was very strict on ALL the dogs , from puppy right through to the big boys and girls ;)

I also think it depends on the type of show. More allowances are made at Open show level, as the Champ shows are taken more seriously :) And whether the judge is an all rounder or a breed specialist makes a difference cos if they are a specialist they tend to know exactly what their own breed puppies are like, and what to allow for :D IMO anyway

I hope the answer is never, as I have a 3 year old Champion who still thinks it is amusing to grab at my jacket when being sent up and down, as she far prefers to move round and round and round a showring, LOL :D :D
