Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / anyone else bitch take this long to deliver??? 30hrs since
- By nikki2o14 [gb] Date 13.03.14 15:22 UTC
its been 30hours since her temp dropped... she then panted a little around 25hrs ago... then around 19hours ago is when stage 1 really kicked in... digging, panting, pacing, shaking. its been going on since then... and still no contractions. called my vet who is happy to wait as there are no signs anything is wrong. this is her first litter but this has never happened to me before... pups are still moving but stomach feels very hard. temp is hanging around the 37 mark, so isnt heading back up yet.... im beginning to get concerned because nothing is really happening, has anybody else had this happen?

Yep, my bitch did this for 4 days before finally delivering 4 healthy pups. I wouldn't take the temp drop too literally, it is often an ineffective method of determining when they will deliver.

I don't do the temperature drop but yes have had a few days in the process of thinking it is about to happen.

Ditto, our Inka had me thinking she was going to whelp from day 61 and finally whelped day 65 from first mating, but she had been mated over 6 days.

>im beginning to get concerned

I would be concerned too.  If this is a toy breed I would be frantic.  Would you recognise inertia?

i was frantic lol i called up the vet and she came out and checked her over, she told me she was dilated and she said they will need to intervene this morning if no puppies. but my pooch did go into labor during the night. first pup was dead, second alive, third dead, 4th and 5th alive. so we have 3 pups, and two did not make it. i called the vet when the first one came out and we were rubbing and rubbing but abso nothing, so the vet said it does happen sometimes and there really is nothing that can be done. she was gorgeous too, and so perfect and i rubbed for ages and tried everything but i think she was long gone before she came out. so i cheered up a little when the next one came and was fine, but then when another one was dead i couldnt believe it. iv never lost a pup before so this is all new to me but im devastated about them, my girl didnt seam upset or distressed and shes very happy now with her bunch of 3.

Well three is a nice number for a toy to rear.

Sorry to hear about the lost babies, but at least you have 3 live ones and your girl safe and sound. x
