Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Dog sitting on chair, what does this mean?

Seriously there seems to be a power struggle going on in this house.  The second my husband gets up of his chair our 3yr old standard poodles steps right up turns round and lies down. She can be fast asleep on the sofa and the minute he leaves his chair she strides over and up she gets.  This was funny at the start but now it is happening in the kitchen, dining room and of late out in his shed (yes he is sad enough to have a chair out there where he takes his coffee to when working outside).

So what is this all about? Is there a reason behind it?  I was thinking it was just to get the warm spot but he thinks she planning to take over lol

My girls like that, but not to the extent of every time though. We're both after my spot on the bed now she sleeps on my bed. I sleep on the same spot every night (it's a double bed so plenty of space) but she still tries to pinch it most night. One Time she was on the edge of the bed while I was getting changed, then I climbed over her to get to my spot. I was on my hands and knees sorting my pillows out and she got up and got under me and layed down looking at me!

Is her passport valid and up to date?

Does she have access to banned substances?

Has she been using the internet and erasing her history of web browsing?

Does she consort with suspicious looking individuals?

Is she cagey about her activities ?

Do you find her making notes which she won't let you read ?

All these are warning signs of an imminent take over - you have been warned :-D

It is, it's a take over.. She has been very shifty lately.  I think she feels left out with us watching so much of Crufts on the telly.  As I speak she is sleeping on his knee, so really it is sitting on his chair by stealth!

Could be that hubby has a nice warm bottom and makes the seat comfy so she loves getting in and snuggling up wherever he has been. :-D  Seen plenty of dogs enjoy moving to a place where a human has just got up, not necessarily a power struggle, more a 'that place is more comfy where you've been sat.'  When you come back you just say move over. ;-)

It also smells nice. To a dog.

If you read through Freudian literature you might find something.

As long as there is no issue with her moving off when he wants his space back then it's no issue.

She's probably very attached to him so finds it pleasant/comforting to be where he has been and can smell him.

Bitches will often attach to the male in the house more, and males to the woman.

It would seem my husband is rather flattered by your replies lol.  Although he is wary of Dill's hilarious reply in case it may be true.  Once again she is sleeping across his lap!
