Hi all
Our 9 year old female beardie has been acting really strange in the last week. She has always been a challenging dog, she is fear aggressive and prone to resource guarding but both traits have lessened as she has matured. In the last week she has taken to hiding between our conifer trees and the fence in the garden for up to an hour. She doesn't seem frightened at all just standing there? Nothing can entice her out, not the doorbell or cheese or gravy bones-all of which would have her running towards us normally. Tonight she did something she never, ever has done, she sneaked out of the front door while my husband was putting something in the bin , she didn't go far but didn't come back to the door either, nothing massive, just weird  and completely out of character?
Just wondered if anyone else has any experience of this?

I would have a thorough vet check my Beardie girl would stand in garden staring into space and my oldest boy does it too but with both it came with age. My boy is almost 13 and is getting very geriatric nearly blind and a bit wobbly and wandered but loves his cuddles being groomed and especially his food.

There are various drugs and supplements which can help so I would get her to the vet.

My Beardie has altered over the last year.  Everything points to her being a bit senile.  Like Owner really.  She will go down the garden and gaze into space, sometimes barking at the breeze.  I would get the vet to check her over.

On the other hand I have a young[er] fit and viable dog, who now the mornings are getting lighter earlier, thinks it's his job to shout at every bird that lands in the garden, via the spare bedroom window. I could have cheerfully strangled him on Sunday morning at 7am, but the DIY builders opposite started up an hour later (building a house in what was once someone's large back garden).
