In Discover Dogs at Crufts on Saturday I was lucky enough to meet this beautiful breed.
I am not a skilled breeder or anything like that, just a a pet owner with a reasonable knowledge. As such  my reasoning is probably wrong, but this dog seemed to be everything people breeding the Labradoodle say they are trying to achieve.

I would be interested to read some comments and opinions to either confirm or rubbish my thinking.

Thanks

There are several established breeds fitting the criteria the mixed breeders say they are trying to achieve - and all without the huge gamble that they got it right.

Which just proves that the crossbreeding has a different purpose to that stated.

Mainly money making.

The Lagotto is gorgeous, as is the Pumi :-D

Personally, I think the people who buy the crossbreeds are too lazy to go looking for the different breeds and just go for what is widely advertised and instantly available.    One thing most of the cross breeders have going for them is their ability to sell themselves, and their willingness to breed large numbers of pups so that they always have something available.

Exactly, and if you want others of what you'd hope to achieve from such a cross, you have the Spanish Water dog, Irish Water Spaniel, and fi you want large, Curly coated Retriever!!!

All these breeds are numerically small/rare and actually need new dedicated enthusiasts, so if the doodle breeders are really about breeding for the right reason, they have a golden opportunity, and no need to reinvent the wheel.

Funnily enough when we saw them at Discover Dogs I did remark to my husband that this is what the doodle people should be buying instead of a crossbreed.

I'm not an expert but I have been grooming one for 3 or 4 years now, she is an absolute sweetheart, friendly but laidback and very intelligent. My friend recently bought one and was at Crufts with her, she is also very friendly and happy. You do wonder why so many people buy cockerpoos when there are gorgeous lagottos around! I can thoroughly recommend them on my experiences!

Extremely good point -and I bet a Curly will have a MUCH easier coat than a Poodle cross Labrador!

Just had a read on the Champdogs site, they do sound like nice dogs and are non shedding, just right for all those allergic people frantically buying labradoodles. :-) Fascinating that their coat colour changes throughout there lives.

Bedlington coat colour changes throughout their lives too :-)     The bitches change colour according to where they are hormonally,  their jackets becoming really dark as they come into season, then getting really light afterwards.   Neutered bitches and entire/neutered dogs change colour too, but not as quickly :-)

Thanks for your replies ...not as daft as I look then...I have to say I was really taken with this dog on Saturday. But I still like my clothes covered in dallie hairs

Dill thanks for the info about the Beddlington coat.
