Hi
At what day does everyone scan and do you count from mating or ovulation?

Thanks :)

Not touching this one with a 10 ft pole  LOL!!

30 days earliest.

35 days, the person doing the scanning will tell you when they think the best day is.

28 days from first mating, though one of my vets is happy to scan at 21 days, very reliably too :) Depends really on when the person doing the scanning feels confident. I don't progesterone test so am clueless about the actual time of ovulation ... I rely on nature ;)

From 28 days onwards. Best to ask the person doing the scanning when they recommend. Have you got someone lined up yet?

we scanned at home 35days after first mating

In 40 odd years of dogs I have never bothered to scan.  Assuming that, if I've had a bitch mated, then she will have her litter when ready.

I do from time to time ( around 5 times in 35+ years) always around 28-30 days. I only usually do one mating so its easy to count.
There are times where I want or NEED to know.
Last time was to pay stud dog owner 'upon pregnancy diagnosis' as per agreement on a bitch who had previously missed and we had a very short slip mating...result 6 puppies.
I don't believe it in any way upsets or stresses a normal healthy bitch.

I really do think that if a bitch finds being scanned stressful, particularly if it's a scanner who comes to your own home, then she isn't suitable to be a brood bitch ....

Amen.   And I'm another who has had our hounds for over 40 years .... since 1972 in fact.

>35 days

By then I'd usually be able to tell myself.

Always did it at 28 days when I bothered, only did it this time, at 6 1/2 weeks, as she went from looking pregnant to not, and the scan showed she had absorbed.
