As an experienced toy breed owner, having a lot of experience in whelping toy breed bitches I'm gobsmacked that you sound pretty nonchalant at day 65.
I would be having a seizure! Well, not for real, as I would never leave a toy bitch to day 65, I would be straight to the veterinary hospital before day 65.
My live litters have all been born on days 58 and 59, the ones with dead pups day 65 and 63. (Second one had two dead pups and one live, first one two dead no live.) Lesson learned the hard way.
hi jean please dont think i was sat back and relaxed as getting to day 65 was alot of days/nights worry the only reason i was happy to go that far was because of regular updates to vets having my girl scanned to see if pups where distressed and to give her the chance to self whelp, the decision was not made easily!!!!! i checked her myself several times throughout the day with my fetal doppler had there been any change i would not of hesitated to rush straight to the vet but she seemed very relaxed in fact more so than usual until delivery was imminent. would i go to day 65 again? the answer is No simply because i no my girl and have learned off this experience little things to look out for but i certainly would not jump in head first either as every case is not the same. I have been very lucky to have 5 beautiful big baby's and i no it doesn't always go that way but sometimes a dog can self whelp a whole litter on time and have more dead than live for no apparent reason at all but unfortunately that's part and parcel of breeding it very un- predictable and a big learning curve along the way.
