Hi i have a bitch who I started idexxing on day 9 with result coming back 2.2. we are now on day 15 with result coming back at 4.9. ive not had a bitch go this long with low readings. we hve been told to re test monday day being 17 for result tuesday. does anyone know what estimated reading i should be looking at for monday! this is starting to get expensive lol. I have no choice though as the stud dog is 7 hours away and I need to get the day right. any help appreciated :) p.s looks like I might miss crufts :*(

As she has taken so long to get to 4.9 she could jump quickly - but by Monday she should have reached doubles figures and they may be able to give you an estimated day to mate.

thanks ells bells :) hopefully I will have an idea on tuesday. im glad i tested though as i would have been up there this week with no result :) x

I idexxed for the first time also due to the stud dog being far away, did  day 9/10 low reading did two days later slightly higher when I took her to my vets for the third time two days later he had me worried said never had a dog stay so low with little increase and to gave three tests maybe she isn't producing eggs.....obviously I was gutted and worried sick dropped test off again at idexx they phoned me about three hours later to Nate the next day and or day after as the score gad rocketed, I mated her the next day, it was a slip, so left get with stud dog owners  still no tie....very proud to say been scanned in whelp...so don't loose hope x

This happened to me.  I didn't think it would happen as had problems mating before but retested on Monday and results on Tuesday (day 18) said she was ready to go so it was a mad panic to get her mated that evening and went on to have a litter of 5.

Slight hijack, my girl is coming into season now, I am inclined to get her tested Friday afternoon which would be day 7, because we are away on Saturday & Sunday for Crufts (not with her obviously!). If I don't get her tested until Monday that will be day 10, and as she's a maiden and I have no idea when she might be ready, my inclination is to start a little earlier than I might have if we hadn't been away. If they phone on Saturday to see she is ready, we can at least still go Monday, but if we didn't test until Monday we wouldn't know whether to go or not till Tuesday which I suppose is only 24 hours different, but if she was ready Friday then it might make all the difference! What do people think? Haven't had a litter in 3.5 years and it's only my 3rd attempt at breeding so still very much a novice!

Progesterone levels / mating

0-2 nmol/L Baseline concentrations too early to estimate ovulation
3 - 6 nmol /L Minimum 2 days before ovulation expected however result of 3 - 4 nmol/L may persist for a week or longer before increasing. Earliiest estimating breeding 4 - 6 days but could be longer (re test needed)
7 - 12 nmol/L Minimum 1 day before ovulation. Estimated window for breeding 3 - 5 days but could be longer ( re test recommended)
13 - 18 nmol/L Ovulation impending or just occurred. Estimated breeding window 2 - 4 days
19 - 31 nmol/L Ovulation recently occurred. Estimated breeding window 1 - 3 days
32 - 64 nmol/L Ova have matured, optimal potential for fertility. Estimated breeding window 0 - 2 days
65 - 90 nmol/L Ova have matured but aging, decreased potential for fertility. Breed at once
Above 90 nmol/L Too late

Thanks for that! Hmm so perhaps a first pre-mate test on day 10 would still be ok? Don't want to miss the window, but also am in no hurry to spend an extra £50 if I don't have to. Have to organise my older girl's booster as well so will see what the vet thinks, he's pretty good and not just money grabbing :-p

I would do the first test on day 9 to get result back on day 10. thats what i do and i havent missed the deadline yet. but of course it is personal choice as there are the odd bitchs who go early x goodluck

What is the difference between using Idexx or just going to the vet and having them send the blood, does the vet send the blood to Idexx or some other lab? Everyone speaks very highly of Idexx so I am planning on using them, but just curious as to why it's any different to just using your vet.

Yes but can't do day 9 as it's Sunday. Vet has recommended day 7 so will go with that - had almost persuaded myself day 10 would be fine as we'd only get the results a day later than day 7 thanks to the weekend, but caved in - oh well it's only money, can't take it with you. :-p

not all vets use iddexx they do there own in - house test which i think are a total waste of money

I get serum progesterones done via my vet. Blood draw in morning and result back by tea time via the same external lab used by practice for other blood samples for other tests. Same test as Idexx ( not an in house quantative Elisa test kit) but same day result. Not all labs have the radio assey machine needed to run test but if they do faster result via your own vet rather than posting to Idexx.

We've got a 13.5 reading this morning! Vet said 2-3 days, tbh Wednesday is almost impossible for me so I've fixed with SDO to go tomorrow night and Thursday night, fingers crossed! Neutered male cocker trying to hump her this evening so I am somewhat hopeful. :-)
