Hello,
My husband and I own a 8 year old rottweiler. We are planning on moving to another state soon and are having a hard time deciding if we should take him with us or not. We love him so much, but he is becoming unpredictable around strangers in his old age. I don't feel we can give him away to another family because of his age and habits. We think we may have to put him down. What do you reccomend. It is a hard decision for us. Thanks

Hi Guest
If you weren't moving to another state...would you have thought about putting him to sleep ??.

Surely there's no choice? If he's part of your family, he goes too.
If, of course, he's just a chattel.....poor dog :(

I think you are looking for support to have him put to sleep, to justify it in your own mind.
How about dealing with his old age, and supporting your friend for life, instead of treating him as an inconvenience.

Guest, have you spoken to your vet about your dog? Maybe there is a medical reason why his temperament is changing and it might be something that can be treated? If you really can not take him with you and he is unpredictable around strangers, then your vet will be able to advise you of your options.
