An IP is a unique number which identifies the computer you are using and every time you make a post your IP is logged. So they want you to make a post so they can record your IP.

HTH :)

Its not necessarily unique and exclusive to your computer... if you are using Dial Up or Broadband you may get allocated one of a rotating/pool bunch of IP addresses from your USP - and you may get a different one when you log on tomorrow I think  :)

Yes, you can have either a static or a dynamic IP - however I thought that was going a little too far in depth :) AOL are a good example of an ISP that uses dynamic IP's, however the majority use static. Either way, everytime you make a post the IP is logged. If you have problems with people using dynamic IP's it is hard to ban them as you are potentially cutting out a number of your users but you can still report them to the ISP who should look into it. I assume in the case above they may have banned someone who has then registered with a different username and they want to see if the IP's are the same.

IP stands for Internet Protocol.An Internet Protocol(IP) address refers to a unique number assigned to each computer on the Internet.An IP address consists of four numbers, each of which contains one to three digits, with a single dot (.) separating each number or set of digits. Each of the four numbers can range from 0 to 255. Here's an example of what an IP address might look like: 78.125.0.209
There are five classes of available IP ranges: Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D and Class E, while only A, B, and C are commonly used:
Class A------------------> 1.0.0.1 to 126.255.255.254
Class B -----------------> 128.1.0.1 to 191.255.255.254
Class C -----------------> 192.0.1.1 to 223.255.254.254
Class D------------------> 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255
Class E -----------------> 240.0.0.0 to 254.255.255.254 .
If you want to find your computer ip address,follow the below steps
1.Start->Run->cmd prompt
2.In that,just type ipconfig and then click enter
For example: It will show ip address like 74.110.208.65 .
