My girl is on day 59 going by her 2nd mating and had a temp drop to 36.7 this morning at 6am having been round 37.7 all week.I just took it again and its jumped up to 37.3,does it go back up after the drop? This is my first time using this method.
You need to take the temperature morning and night for a few days to establish your bitch's pattern and 'normal range'. It is then easy to see the temperature rise and then fall. Once you get that drop, whelping will be within 24 hrs. I've used this method for every litter so far, and it has been totally reliable in predicting when whelping is about to occur.

I'm new to the site and not sure how to create my own post. I'm looking for help. My female is on day 47 (as far as I know, possibly day 51) I checked her temp last night and it was 37.7, I checked her again tonight and it is now 36.6. She is also panting and rearranging her whelping box and is being very clingy which is usually normal for her because she is an affectionate dog anyways. I'm freaking out because it's way too early for her to be in labor, I'm going to call the vet first thing in the morning. Has anyone else experienced this??? I can also still feel the puppies kicking.
You can't just do it as a 'one off' and say the temp has dropped. You have to monitor temperature morning and night for a few days. I normally start around day 57. You then start to see a pattern (i.e. might be slightly higher temp in morning to night anyway). You will also see the peak and drop off when it comes. Baseline temps for dogs can vary quite a bit. One of my bitches is about 37.4, the other is 38.
Day 47 is way too early to whelp, but if you don't know exactly when she ovulated then you may have the days wrong?..... (did you IDEXX test?). If you can still feel pups kicking then I would say all is well, and just monitor her and try to relax!
