Topic Dog Boards / Health / Persistent reverse sneezing

Paris has had a reverse sneezing condition for a few years now.  She has bouts where she will keep stand and do this for a minute or more and this will persist for weeks and then ease off until perhaps months later when it comes back.  She was checked out a couple of years ago when she was poorly but nothing showed up at the vets and antibiotics appeared to have no effect, it cleared up on its own.  Any ideas?

Have you tried changing the food? That stopped it entirely for several of my own dogs. In particular going from dry complete to wet food. In fact I have one that starts it whenever my mum visits, as she keeps sneaking him little pieces of whatever biscuit she is eating. She's always found out because of it!

Thanks, I will try that.

How old is your dog Cheryl?  My oldie girl was doing similar and when she had some lumps removed my Vet checked her throat and chest.  She has mild bronchitis but she also has a slight laryngeal paralysis.

Thanks Justine.  I will get the vet to look into that.  She's ok in herself but I need to put her into kennels for a couple of nights next month and I'm worried none will take her. I will have to tell them in advance because if she started doing the sneezy/snorting thing on arrival they might refuse her and if she started doing it after I've left her I would hate to think of them calling a vet unnecessarily. I'll get the vet to print confirmation that she's ok before I take her.  It would be good if there was some diagnosis though, so I'll suggest the bronchitis and laryngeal paralysis.  She's 10 years old.

In one of my dog's it was the chiropractor that stopped it. I still have no idea why, but after a visit to sort a different problem out he has never done it since. So it looks like in his case, it must have been linked to muscle tension somewhere.
