Topic Dog Boards / Showing / CRUFTS - Benching a dog that hates being caged
- By Jet2712 [gb] Date 09.02.14 08:31 UTC
So I have qualified my boy for crufts this year (first time for him), problem is he HATES being caged. I have tried all the training in the world, but he won't have it. I understand you can't leave crufts until 4pm. Is it ok to just put a bed in his bench and attach him with a benching chain. I will not be leaving him at all during the day, I assume you can put a little camping chair next to your dogs bench?

So my question is, is it ok to bench a dog without using a cage (just benching chains), and are you allowed to sit by your dogs bench all day?

Thanks in advance

Yes, yes and yes
Do you have someone to stand by him or keep an eye on him when you need the loo? Most Rott exhibitors will do this for you.
Well done with your boy and good luck :-)

I never put a crate on benching when showing in the UK.   We used benching chains, or leads (which didn't clatter like the chains can) and took their bed pads for the base of the bench.   And yes, you can take a small chair with you, or sit on the bench.   It's pretty much essential to have somebody to be with your dog if you have to leave for a comfort break etc.   I'd never leave mine alone on their benches - there are too many stupid members of the public to say nothing of the real possibility of somebody getting up to mischief!!
